BANYUWANGI, JAWA TIMUR: Meaningful societal change often starts with young people who care about the issues around them. Guided by this belief, Astra launched the 17th SATU Indonesia Awards 2026 Roadshow in Banyuwangi, East Java, today (12/6). The event encourages youth to address local challenges and turn their concern into impactful, sustainable action, in line with this year's theme, "Connected in Action."

East Java was chosen as the first roadshow destination because of its large and dynamic young population. According to the 2025 Intercensal Population Survey (SUPAS), Generation Z and Millennials make up about 46% of the province’s population, or nearly 19.5 million people. This demographic is vital for fostering innovation and advancing Health, Education, Environment, Entrepreneurship, and Technology.

The roadshow brought together over 500 participants, including students, community members, and social activists, creating a platform to share inspiration and promote initiatives with lasting societal benefits. The event was fully supported by the Banyuwangi Regency Government, with Regent Hj. Ipuk Fiestiandani, S.Pd., M.KP., is attending in person to encourage youth to innovate and contribute to their communities.

"On behalf of the Banyuwangi Regency Government, we would like to thank Astra for organizing the SATU Indonesia Awards and selecting Banyuwangi as one of the host cities for the 17th SATU Indonesia Awards 2026 Roadshow. We hope that through this event, even more brilliant talents can be discovered who will continue to grow and bring benefits to society. Amid all the changes happening today, one thing remains constant, the importance of people who have the care, creativity, and courage to bring solutions to their surroundings. Because in truth, the progress of a region is determined not only by the abundance of its natural resources, but also by the quality of its people," said Regent of Banyuwangi Hj. Ipuk Fiestiandani, S.Pd., M.KP.

The Inspirational Talk session was the main highlight of the roadshow, featuring guest speakers including Special Staff to the Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs (Menkomdigi) of the Republic of Indonesia Raline Shah, Astra Head of Corporate Communications Windy Riswantyo, and SATU Indonesia Awards 2021 Awardee and Desa Sejahtera Astra Champion of Lali Gadget from Sidoarjo Achmad Irfandi. They discussed the role of young people in addressing societal challenges and emphasized the importance of collaboration to expand social impact.

Achmad Irfandi shared how his efforts began when his community became concerned about children's excessive screen time. He introduced simple literacy activities such as coloring, reading, and storytelling, which evolved into "Dolanan Tanpa Gadget" and later "Kampung Lali Gadget."

The commitment of young people to drive change is evident in the many initiatives emerging from Banyuwangi. Notable examples include Oka Bayu Pratama, a SATU Indonesia Awards 2025 Awardee in the field of Technology, Vicky Hendri Kurniawan, a SATU Indonesia Awards 2020 Awardee in the field of Technology, Tunggul Harwanto, a SATU Indonesia Awards 2020 Awardee in the field of Education, and Muhammad Farid, a SATU Indonesia Awards 2010 Awardee in the field of Education. Their achievements demonstrate that regional solutions can develop and thrive through ongoing collaboration.

"Through the theme 'Connected in Action,' Astra wants to emphasize that every good initiative from young people creates a wider impact when it is connected with communities, local governments, and a supporting ecosystem that is built to last. By strengthening the collaboration between SATU Indonesia Awards and Desa Sejahtera Astra, we hope to see even more youth initiatives that can grow, integrate, and bring broader benefits to society," said Astra Chief of Corporate Affairs Boy Kelana Soebroto.

The SATU Indonesia Awards is Astra's annual recognition program for young people who make positive contributions to their communities and the surrounding environment, supporting the creation of sustainable lives through the fields of Health, Education, Environment, Entrepreneurship, and Technology.

This year, Astra aims to broaden the impact of young people's contributions across regions through collaboration with Desa Sejahtera Astra. Astra encourages SATU Indonesia Awards awardees to support the development of Desa Sejahtera Astra as champions or facilitators, so their initiatives can deliver broader and more sustainable social impact.

To date, the SATU Indonesia Awards has produced 792 inspiring young people, while Desa Sejahtera Astra has nurtured 1,533 villages across 35 provinces. Since its first edition in 2010, the number of SATU Indonesia Awards registrants has continued to grow, reaching 17,708 participants in 2025.

The registration period for the 17th SATU Indonesia Awards 2026 has been open from April 1 to August 1, 2026.
