JAKARTA: Two Desa Sejahtera Astra changemakers, Zainul Arifin of Desa Sejahtera Astra Ketapanrame and Nur Ahmadi of Desa Sejahtera Astra Wukirsari, have received the Satyalencana Kepariwisataan honor from the President of Indonesia for their contributions to community-based village tourism. Indonesian Minister of Tourism Widiyanti Putri Wardhana presented the award at Gedung Sapta Pesona, Jakarta, on Indonesia's Independence Day on Monday (17/8).
The Satyalencana Kepariwisataan is an official honor from the President of Indonesia, recognizing individuals who have made significant contributions to tourism and improved the welfare of local villages.
"Astra is proud of the recognition received by these two Desa Sejahtera Astra changemakers, who have been mentored by Astra since 2023 and have delivered tangible benefits to their communities while advancing community-based tourism. This award represents a victory for all village communities that continue to innovate, and we hope it inspires other villages to keep creating and growing with Indonesia," said Astra Chief of Corporate Affairs Boy Kelana Soebroto.
Zainul Arifin, the Desa Sejahtera Astra changemaker from Ketapanrame, transformed village-owned land in Trawas District, Mojokerto, East Java, into the flagship tourist destinations Taman Ghanjaran and Sumber Gempong. This development, achieved through collaboration and community investment managed by the village-owned enterprise (BUMDesa), has generated economic benefits and increased the Village Original Income (PADes).
Meanwhile, Nur Ahmadi, the Desa Sejahtera Astra changemaker from Wukirsari, has developed tourism while preserving the environment and local culture in Bantul, Yogyakarta, including producing Batik Tulis Giriloyo. These efforts have increased recognition for Desa Sejahtera Astra Wukirsari and created economic opportunities through tourism and culture-based products, leading to global recognition and the Best Tourism Village 2024 award from United Nations Tourism.
The achievements of both changemakers reflect Desa Sejahtera Astra's mission to empower communities, develop local potential, and deliver lasting benefits for villages and their residents.
For nearly seven decades, Astra has supported the nation, delivering tangible benefits to over 16 million people, including 6.9 million workers and their families, and 3 million beneficiaries of social contributions through the Desa Sejahtera Astra program, now active in 1,533 villages across 35 provinces.
These efforts will continue in line with Astra's aspiration to Prosper with the Nation and its support for Indonesia's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
