Deputy Minister of PPPA Visits Desa Sejahtera Astra Bugisan, PT Astra International Tbk's Fostered Village Succeeding in Cultural and Tourism Development

KLATEN, CENTRAL JAVA: Desa Sejahtera Astra Bugisan has distinguished itself by developing its cultural and tourism potential. Indonesia's Deputy Minister of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA), Veronica Tan, visited the village in Prambanan District, Klaten Regency, Central Java, which is mentored by PT Astra International Tbk ("Astra"). The visit focused on assessing the progress of this culture-based tourism village and its efforts to highlight local traditions and strengths.

During the visit on Wednesday (12/8), Deputy Minister Veronica Tan was joined by Astra Head of Environment & Social Responsibility Diah Suran Febrianti and Desa Sejahtera Astra Bugisan facilitator Rudi Riono for activities at Paseban Candi Kembar in Desa Sejahtera Astra Bugisan. The program included a Gejog Lesung welcome performance, an introduction to MSME products managed by local women, and various cultural activities that showcase the village's living culture.

Deputy Minister Veronica Tan participated in community activities, including observing emping production, sampling traditional herbal jamu, and trying mask painting and ecoprint techniques. She also reviewed food security initiatives, such as rice fields, egg-laying duck farming, catfish cultivation, and Black Soldier Fly (BSF) maggot management.

Desa Sejahtera Astra Bugisan, located just south of Plaosan Temple, is a culture-based tourism village that uses a community-based model to highlight local culture, traditional crafts, folk arts, and educational tourism. Since 2022, Astra's Desa Sejahtera Astra program has supported sustainable tourism by building tourism capacity, developing local MSMEs, and empowering the community in health, education, environment, and entrepreneurship. This mentorship has benefited 3,154 residents, including over 200 women in Desa Sejahtera Astra Bugisan.

Tourism Revenue Grows 56.3%

Desa Sejahtera Astra Bugisan integrates tourism with food security through demonstration plots for rice fields, egg-laying ducks, catfish, and BSF maggots. These initiatives strengthen local assets and generate economic value. Since Astra's mentorship began in 2022, tourism revenue has grown by 56.3%, from IDR 491 million to IDR 767 million. This growth shows that community-based cultural and tourism development can deliver economic benefits for residents.

Development in Desa Sejahtera Astra Bugisan is comprehensive. In health, the program improves Posyandu services and nutrition education for mothers and children. In education, it introduces Javanese script and local cultural values while building tourism human resource capacity. Environmental efforts include integrated waste management, maggot, catfish, and duck farming, and planting Dluwang culture trees. In entrepreneurship, the program supports MSME growth, local product branding, digital marketing, and experience-based tourism packages through the living culture concept.

Desa Sejahtera Astra Bugisan's ongoing development and community empowerment have received significant recognition. The village was named among the Top 50 Tourism Villages in the 2022 Anugerah Desa Wisata Indonesia (ADWI) Awards, won second place nationally in the Ministry of Tourism's 2023 Kampanye Sadar Wisata (KSW) Award, and was recognized as the Tourism Village with the Best Community Empowerment.
