Jakarta (14/8) – The New Veloz Hybrid EV has been named Car of the Year 2026 for the second time, most recently at the Indonesian Automotive Awards 2026 hosted by the iNews media group on Thursday (13/8). This recognition reinforces Toyota's Hybrid EV lineup as the leading choice for electrified vehicles in Indonesia and demonstrates the strength of Toyota's Quality, Durability, and Reliability (QDR) standards nationwide.

"Toyota is grateful that the New Veloz Hybrid EV has received the Car of the Year 2026 award from the Indonesian Automotive Awards 2026. We're also encouraged by the growing response from the public, reflected in more than 17,700 units booked between November 2025 and early August 2026. This MPV is now the second largest contributor to Toyota's Hybrid sales, right behind the Kijang Innova Zenix Hybrid EV, which remains top of mind for many Indonesians and continues to set the benchmark for similar products," said Vice President Director of PT Toyota-Astra Motor (TAM), Jap Ernando Demily.
Toyota has learned a great deal from two homegrown Hybrid EV success stories, the Kijang Innova Zenix Hybrid EV (2022) and the Yaris Cross Hybrid EV (2023). Driven by a spirit of continuous improvement, the New Veloz Hybrid EV made its world premiere in Indonesia in 2025, a long-awaited debut that combines the proven, reliable values of Toyota's MPVs with advanced electrification technology.
In keeping with the spirit of Toyota Is Here for Indonesia, the locally produced New Veloz Hybrid EV demonstrates Toyota's commitment to providing future mobility solutions for all customer segments, supporting economic growth, expanding exports, and creating jobs.
Customer orders for the New Veloz Hybrid EV exceeded 17,700 units between November 2025 and early August 2026, reflecting strong market acceptance.
Toyota has established Privilege Parking Spots and Charging Stations at three locations in Jakarta, Bekasi, and Bandung, providing added convenience for users of Toyota and Lexus electrified vehicles.
The Low MPV segment is Indonesia's most popular car category due to its value as a family vehicle. Competitive pricing, ample capacity, comfort, and practicality meet customer needs for both city and intercity travel.
The New Veloz Hybrid EV introduces electrification to the Low MPV segment, positioning itself as both an advanced family car and a driver of Indonesia's transition to electrified mobility.
The Toyota Series-Parallel Hybrid System enables the gasoline engine and electric motor to operate together automatically. Automotive media tests recorded fuel consumption as low as 28.9 km/liter. This system is straightforward and accessible, making electrification easy for the public to understand and adopt.
The Veloz Hybrid EV Lintas Nusa 1.0 and 2.0 expeditions covered over 14,200 km in 47 and 39 days, respectively, testing the New Veloz Hybrid EV's QDR across 5 islands, 20 provinces, and more than 95 cities in Indonesia.
The vehicle successfully navigated diverse terrain, including city streets, rural roads, mountains, coastal routes, and off-road trails. The journey also demonstrated the support of over 360 official Toyota dealers across Indonesia.
"We dedicate this Car of the Year 2026 title to all Indonesians who have chosen Toyota's Hybrid EV. We recognize that the public's appreciation, trust, and positive reception play a huge role in helping the New Veloz Hybrid EV continue to meet everyone's mobility needs. Our customers' trust keeps driving us to consistently deliver reliable mobility solutions for the long run," said Marketing Director of PT Toyota-Astra Motor (TAM), Bansar Maduma.
