Gender equality has gained major focus in business and leadership in recent years. One topic that continues to grow is women in leadership, as women increasingly take on strategic roles and make decisions across various industries.

Women in Leadership: Definition and Relevance

Women in leadership refers to the active participation of women in leadership positions, whether as managers, directors, or strategic leaders, across both public and private institutions. In a global context, many studies show that gender diversity at the managerial level can improve organizational performance, strengthen corporate reputation, and encourage more inclusive innovation.

Challenges to women’s representation in strategic positions persist in Indonesia. Companies such as Astra are gradually addressing these issues by fostering inclusive, equitable workplaces and demonstrating a commitment to sustainable diversity.

Astra Women Community: Astra’s Commitment to Gender Equality

As one of Indonesia’s leading companies, Astra has a long-term vision to become an intelligent and agile company that focuses on its employees, customers, and society. To realize this vision, Astra embeds diversity and inclusion principles in its corporate culture.

Astra’s internal policies ensure career opportunities are open to all genders. On June 4, 2025, Astra established the Astra Women Community during its event, themed “Beyond Diversity: Performing and Transforming Diversity Towards Sustainability.”

The community is a platform for developing and empowering women leaders, increasing their numbers at Astra through career development, networking, and well-being initiatives.

In addition, the community fosters an inclusive culture that supports work-life balance and prevents discrimination and harassment.

Career and Leadership Development for Women in Astra Through the Astra Women Community

As a community designed to empower women in the workplace, Gita Tiffani Boer, Director of Astra, stated that the Astra Women Community will support women’s career and leadership development within Astra.

She believes this initiative enriches perspectives in corporate decisions. “The formation of the Astra Women Community is expected to support the career and leadership development of Astra women and increase the number of women leaders or women at the C-level within Astra,” explained Gita Tiffani Boer.

She continued, “There has been extensive research and evidence regarding the role and contribution of women leaders in organizations. Their presence not only enriches perspectives in decision-making but also improves collaboration, enhances performance, and strengthens organizational sustainability.”

The Astra Women Community forms a key part of Astra’s sustainability strategy, emphasizing inclusion and preventing workplace discrimination and harassment. In practice, Astra uses this community to drive the transformation of workplace culture toward a more equal and inclusive environment.

This aligns with Astra’s sustainability principles and long-term vision, supporting SDGs on gender equality and women’s empowerment in industry.
