JAKARTA: PT Astra International Tbk (Astra) has been continuing to give positive contribution towards the development of the nations in many fields, along with the company’s goals namely to create mutual welfare with the nation. Since 60 years of presence in Indonesia, Astra has been a part of the dynamic of social and economic of Indonesian society.
The commitment is re-stated in the commemoration of Astra’s 60th Anniversary themed as “Sharing Inspiration in Building the Nation”. In 6 decades, Astra grows and develops together with the nation as a manifestation of Astra’s philosophy namely to always benefit people. The philosophy has made Astra sustainable, even significantly developed until today.
President Director of Astra International Prijono Sugiarto says: Astra’s goal, to be welfare with the nation, is the determining factor to survive until today. “For 60 years, Astra has faced situations and social economic conditions, as well as experienced several leadership changes. Nevertheless, Astra has a valuable philosophy of Catur Dharma that never fades and always maintained. We will keep innovating based on the values that we hope will continue to grow according to the changing of time,” said Prijono.
Through long-term growth strategy, Triple Roadmap Strategy (Portfolio Roadmap, People Roadmap, and Public Contribution Roadmap), Astra keeps building stages of business growth that are sustainable towards the 2020 Goal to be The Pride of the Nation.
Portfolio Roadmap
Along with the development of Indonesian economy, Astra always strives to the give best in every line of businesses. Currently, Astra has 208 companies and serves more than 10 million customers or Astra Group annually. The commitment to continue producing the best products leads Astra to develop by penetrating to Property Division in 2016, up to now, the company owns 7 business lines, namely Automotive; Financial Service; Heavy Equipment and Mining; Agribusiness; Infrastructure, Logistic, and Other; Information Technology; and Property.
People Roadmap
Astra, which originally had only four employees, has grown into a large company with 214,835 employees in 208 companies around Indonesia. Understanding the importance of human resources as the main asset of the company, Astra consistently develops its employees by providing a comprehensive training from entry level to senior executive level. The training formed in Leadership Development Program (LDP) is developed based on the organization needs, Catur Dharma philosophy, and Astra’s 8 Leadership Competence, and includes 6 stages, namely Astra Attachment Program (AAP); Astra Basic Management Program (ABMP); Astra First Line Management Program (AFMP); Astra Middle Management Program (AMMP); Astra Senior-Manager Management Program (ASrMP), and Astra General Management Program (AGMP).
Besides, Astra recognizes excellent company achievement is inseparable from a sustainable innovation. Therefore, since 1982, Astra has developing InnovAstra as an innovation culture and improvement by Astra People. For 35 years, 7,390,385 innovation projects have been produced.
Public Contribution Roadmap
Astra’s contribution and social responsibility to society, environment, and employees in order to create balance between business interest, social, and environment have been implemented since the company was established. Now, public contribution is sustainably practiced by 208 Astra Group companies as well as through 9 Astra Foundations.
Astra’s corporate social responsibility across Indonesia is emphasized on 4 pillars, namely Astra Untuk Untuk Indonesia Sehat / Astra for Healthy Indonesia (Health), Astra Untuk Indonesia Cerdas / Astra for Smart Indonesia (Education), Astra Untuk Indonesia Hijau / Astra for Green Indonesia (Environment), and Astra Untuk Indonesia Kreatif / Astra for Creative Indonesia (Entrepreneurship). The activities that have been done across Indonesia under the four pillars are described as follows:
Under the Health pillar, Astra’s CSR is focused on improving the quality of mother and children’s health, accelerating nutrition improvement of the community. For 60 years, Astra has been giving free medical services to 125,818 patients, fostering 1,577 healthcare units (Posyandu), and donating 216,163 blood bags.
Astra’s initiative together with the community to establish Kampung Berseri Astra (KBA) as a kampong with healthy and clean environment; healthy, smart, and productive community, is also an implementation of Astra’s 4 CSR pillars. Today, Astra has 49 KBA across 17 provinces in Indonesia.
Since 2014, Astra has started a campaign “GenerAKSI Sehat Indonesia” as a part of Astra’s social contribution in the field of health. Through the campaign that utilizes social media, Astra encourages Indonesian people to commit in a healthy lifestyle as the next generation. Up to now, GenerAKSI Sehat Indonesia has successfully donated 15,654 eyeglasses to Indonesian children especially in the most isolated, outer, and disadvantaged areas (3T) areas.
The education pillar, through Astra for Smart Indonesia program, is focused on fostering elementary and junior high schools in order to increase the early age education quality. Today, Astra has donated 231,936 scholarship packages as well as fostered 15,859 Sekolah Binaan Astra (Astra’s Fostered School), 20 Rumah Pintar (Smart Houses), 124 Pendidikan Anak Usia Dini (PAUD / Early Childhood Education), and 40,284 teachers.
GenerAKSI Cerdas Indonesia program is founded to encourage Indonesia people to pay gratitude to unsung heroes who have fought for education. Through the program, until today, Astra has donated 12,000 shoes and 3,093 bags to improve the education quality for the children in the most isolated, outer, and disadvantaged areas (3T).
“Indonesia, Ayo Aman Berlalu Lintas” (IAABL) program is one of the implementations of Astra’s commitment in encouraging people to practice safety riding & driving. Through this program, Astra has given 23,730,800 exposures regarding safety traffic guidelines.
Conservation area management and biodiversity protection that are integrated and sustainable are some of Astra’s focuses in running the business. Through Environment pillar, up to today, Astra has planted 4,444,947 trees and 1,103,493 mangrove trees; opened 27,439 hectares of green open-spaces, and built 14 waste banks.
Astra’s support in developing SMEs in Indonesia has been running since 37 years ago through Yayasan Dharma Bakti Astra (YDBA). This is Astra’s commitment in growing productive business among community by supporting job opportunity and self reliance.
By emphasizing on fostering SMEs, empowering business capacity, and developing creative economy for disabled people, Astra for Creative Indonesia has fostered 10,847 SMEs groups, 97,641 program recipients, built 16 Business Development Institutions, 10 Microfinance Institution, and empowered 200 disabled people.
SATU Indonesia Awards
Through SATU Indonesia, Astra also conducts SATU Indonesia Awards as a medium to seek and give awards to Indonesian talented youths who have the same spirit with Astra to continuously work and give benefit to others.
SATU Indonesia Awards program is implemented as a way to commemorate The Youth Pledge Day. Through the program since 2010, PT Astra International Tbk has provided an appreciation in form of donation of Rp 55 million and a program to foster the activities of 39 awardees of SATU Indonesia Awards. The selected awardees are those who hold the criteria as follows, maximum 35 years old; individual or group with a minimum of 3 members; have original activities: initiator/activity has been running for at least 1 year; never receives any national/international awards; and are not employees of Astra Group or Tempo Media Group.
Up to 2016, there are 39 awardees of SATU Indonesia Awards who have worked in various categories namely Education, Environment, Entrepreneurship, Health, Technology and Group of the categories mentioned prior.
Astra’s 60th Anniversary
In commemoration of Astra’s 60th Anniversary, Astra will hold series of activity throughout the year. To start the event and as the peak of the celebration, Astra’s Anniversary will be held in Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), Jakarta, on February 24-26, 2017.
Celebrated through various activities such as Inspirational Concert of Astra’s 60th Anniversary, “Astra on Becoming Pride of the Nation” book launching, as well as Bus Stop Revitalization, the anniversary celebration themed as “Sharing the Inspiration in Building the Nation” describes Astra’s spirit in sharing knowledge, experiences, and best practices to society at large. The celebration held in Jakarta will present Astra’s 60th Anniversary Inspirational Concert, Exhibition, and Engagement Programs. It is expected that the celebration allows people to know more about Astra, not only about its products and services, but also the intangibles aspects namely human capital, public contribution, good governance, innovation, and management system.
Astra’s 60 Years Inspirational Concert
Presenting Inspiration Harmony of Indonesia, Astra shares the inspiration for the nation by presenting Astra’s 60 Years Inspirational Concert on February 24, 2017. Held in JCC, Jakarta, the concert presents Erwin Gutawa Orchestra with special performances of legendary Indonesian artists namely Berlian Hutauruk, Ruth Sahanaya, Harvey Malaihollo, Glenn Fredly, Sophia Latjuba, Gita Gutawa, Gabriel Harvianto, Anak Di Atas Rata-Rata, and celebrated by the performance of Impromptu Choir, Dawai Nusantara, Rafflesia Percussion Bengkulu, and Tabusai Dance Theatre.
On the same day, Astra will also launch a book titled “Astra on Becoming Pride of the Nation”. The contemporary management book is written by Yakub Liman and contained management practices practiced by Astra for 60 years.
Bus Stop Revitalization
The real implementation of corporate social action is also shown through Clean Bus Stop Inspirational program. Along with the 60th Anniversary, Astra launches a program that aims to renovate, beautify, and clean up 600 bus stops in 60 cities in Indonesia. The social action is a part of Engagement Programs related to the 4 pillars of Astra’s Corporate Social Responsibility/CSR (Health, Education, Environment, and Entrepreneurship). Later, the program will also involve the participation of the employees, communities, and Astra’s customers throughout Indonesia.
The celebration, February 25-26, 2017
Besides Astra’s 60 Years Inspirational Concert, Astra will also hold exhibition and free entertainment for public at JCC, Jakarta, on February 25-26, 2017.
Visitors can see Astra Group’s exhibition located in the exhibition area of Anjungan Astra. Showing the long milestone of Astra’s 60 Years journey, the area will also present Astra’s way in managing the business and human resources as well as its dedication to community. Public will also can witness the exhibition of intangible assets as well as the latest products and services of Astra Group’s companies from 7 lines of business and foundations located in the area of Karya Nusantara.
Besides Astra Group’s exhibition, public can enjoy many cool entertainment performed by artists namely Kahitna, Maliq & D’Essentials, GAC, and Soleh Solihun at the area of Pelataran Kreasi. Various inspiring talk shows are also can be enjoyed at the area of Beranda Wawasan. Here, public can gain knowledge and information by attending seminars with various themes, e.g, Start-Up Company Seminar that presents the Founder of Young on Top Billy Boen, 2017 Photography Seminar that presents Kristupa and FX Sri Maryono with the Founder of Indonesia Berkebun Shafiq Pontoh, Be A Smart Blogger Seminar with Jakarta Blogger Ichsan Permana, and many more.

Knowing the importance of inspiration sharing with the community, Astra also involves communities from Jakarta in the anniversary celebration. The Balai Komunitas area will be the melting pot of 10 communities, namely Modcom, Astra Runners, Tomoci, Young on Top, Good News From Indonesia (GNFI), Fotografer.net, Komunitas Historia Indonesia, 1000 Guru, Doodle Art Indonesia, and Komunitas Lego Indonesia.
Roadshow to 5 Cities
Not stopping in Jakarta only, Astra’s 60th anniversary will also continue throughout the year with roadshow to 5 cities across Indonesia, namely Yogyakarta (28-30 April 2017), Balikpapan (19-21 May 2017), Surabaya (21-23 July 2017), Medan (29-30 September & 1 October 2017), and Makassar (17-19 November 2017).
