Supporting SDGs, Astra Synergizes Social, Economic & Environmental Sustainability

JAKARTA: PT Astra International Tbk today (18/10) holds the 3rd Astra Green Energy Summit 2018 with a theme Green Energy Innovation towards World Class Organization. The event is part of the sustainable social contribution of Astra for Green Indonesia in supporting Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and national energy endurance.

While opening the event, the Minister of National Planning & Development of the Republic of Indonesia Bambang Brodjonegoro invites to apply as well as synergize the sustainability of environment, economic, and social.

There are also the General Director of Innovation Reinforcement of the Ministry of Research, Technology & Higher Education of the Republic of Indonesia Jumain Appe and Chief of Corporate Communications, Social Responsibility & Security of PT Astra International Tbk Pongki Pamungkas.

“In doing its sustainable social contribution, Astra does not only focus on the environment pillar, but also synergize other pillars such as health, entrepreneurship, and education. The four pillars of Astra’s sustainable social contribution reflects the synergy in the aspects of environment, economic (entrepreneurship), and social (education and health), so that it would be in line with the SDGs,” said Pongki Pamungkas.

The sustainability aspect in terms of environment is translated by Astra through the application of Astra Green Company and Astra Friendly Company since more than one decade ago as the guidance for the whole entity of Astra Group business in putting effort that is beneficial to the nation and environmental-friendly.

Since 2016, Astra Group has successfully collected 105 innovative programs equivalent to energy savings worth IDR 835 billion, energy savings of 2,672 terajoules, and emission reduction of greenhouse gas equivalent to 218,000 tons of CO2.

Energy Innovation Competition

For the first time, Astra today announces the winners of Innovation Astra Green Energy Competition categories of high-school students and college students as an appreciation for young people who have created innovations in term of energy.

The competition has involved 1,495 high-school and college students and collected 425 innovation programs from 59 higher education institutions and 42 high schools/vocational schools of 17 provinces in Indonesia. The winners are eligible for prizes of millions rupiah. Not only that, the winners and finalists will join the Astra Green Energy Student Community so that the energy-saving habit is delivered to the society. Similar to last year, Astra has done the Astra Energy-Saving Months from August to October.

In the event followed by around 300 participants, there is also an inspirational talk show with speakers who are experts in their fields, they are Nur Pamudji, the Director of PLN 2012-2015, Eniya Listiani Dewi as the Awardee of the 2018 Habibie Awards, and the Director of Renewable Energy of General Electric Wayah Wiroto.

According to the principle, wherever Astra is, it has to be beneficial to its surroundings, in accordance to the first philosophy of Catur Dharma Astra, to be the Beneficial Asset to the Nation.
