Jakarta: Good deeds are not always about how much we can give. Small acts of kindness matter and may even be more meaningful for others, especially in a difficult time such as during this COVID-19 pandemic.
In fact, during this challenging period, we have been witnessing acts of kindness especially from our youth. They mobilize and initiate movements to help others fight the Coronavirus.
To honor and as a token of support from Astra to the young warriors, Semangat Astra Terpadu Untuk (SATU) Indonesia Awards added a special category of “Selfless Heroes of the COVID-19 Pandemic” for its 11th edition this year. A special appreciation will be given to five young individuals who have been extraordinarily selfless in their efforts of preventing the further spread of COVID-19 while alleviating the disease’s social impacts across Indonesia.
“Some of us may think that giving back needs money. However, right now there are so many young people doing what they can to fight COVID-19 and be useful to their communities. We believe that there are many more of them out there who fight without expecting to gain anything back. At the end of the day, it’s not about how much you give, but how sincere you are in doing it,” said Chief of Corporate Affairs Astra Riza Deliansyah.
As with other national awardees, each of the chosen selfless heroes during this COVID-19 pandemic will be eligible to receive Rp60 million in cash as well as program mentoring.
The criteria for this new category’s nominees are:
Maximum age of 35 years old
Individual or a collective (minimum 3 people)
Authenticity of activity or program
Has never received a national/international award
Is not an employee of Astra Group or an employee of any partner of SATU Indonesia Awards
Through this special category, Astra hopes to be able to reach out to more of Indonesia’s youth who deserve to be appreciated for their social endeavors. SATU Indonesia Awards 2020 opens for application from March 2 to August 2, 2020 via www.satu-indonesia.com.
Currently, throughout Indonesia, there are around 15 SATU Indonesia Awards recipients who are working to prevent further spread of COVID-19 in Indonesia.
Muhammad Aripin, 2016 recipient in the Entrepreneurship category in Banjarmasin, for example, initiated a movement to produce cloth face mask when the pandemic started. In Semarang, Trisno, 2015 recipient in the Environment category, endeavored to prevent the Coronavirus from spreading to his village.
In a remote area of Indragiri Hilir District in Riau, Rosmiati, midwife and 2012 recipient in the Health category, used a small boat to visit residents. She educated them about COVID-19 and ways to protect themselves.
Fellow midwife Hardinisa Syamitri in Talanganu, West Sumatra was just as resolute. This 2013 recipient in the Health category visited local residents in their homes to make sure she could explain in person about the dangers of COVID-19.
These individuals and many others show a spirit that is aligned with Astra’s mission of prospering with the nation.
