JAKARTA: Recognizing the role and force of the young generation, Indonesia’s first President Ir. Soekarno remarked, “A thousand old men can only dream, but one young man can change the world.”
These wise words are certainly apt to describe the young recipients of the Semangat Astra Terpadu Untuk (SATU) Indonesia Awards who work hard to create real change in the community.
This year, the 11th edition of SATU Indonesia Awards engaged collaborators Young on Top and IDN Times to capture Indonesia’s best and most inspiring young talents. A kick-off ceremony of the Award is held today (2/3).
"Astra started SATU Indonesia Awards because we believe that young people are Indonesia’s driving force in the future. What they do can inspire other young people to make positive changes for Indonesia," said President Director Astra Prijono Sugiarto.
Some of the judges of SATU Indonesia Awards 2020 were present in the kick-off event, such as artist Dian Sastrowardoyo and founder of Young On Top Billy Boen.
“I am delighted to be back as part of the SATU Indonesia Awards 2020. I am looking forward to learning from this year’s winners," said Dian.
Meanwhile, Billy hoped that SATU Indonesia Awards winners can inspire other young people to step up in society not just for themselves, but also for their communities. "If we can be successful at a young age, why wait until we get older?" Billy said.
SATU Indonesia Awards 2020 kick-off ceremony also featured Maya Stolastika Boleng, 2019 SATU Indonesia Awards recipient in the Environment category. Maya shared her experience of choosing a career as an organic farmer. Through her company Twelve's Organic, Maya is now working alongside 25 organic vegetable and fruit farmers.
To the young people, Maya encouraged them to never hesitate to do positive things. "People may think you’re unusual because of your choices, but as long as those are good choices, keep doing them anyway," she said.
To date, SATU Indonesia Awards has awarded 305 young talented Individuals—59 in national and 246 in provincial levels—in the fields of Health, Education, Environment, Entrepreneurship and Technology. Each winner received a prize of Rp60 million as well as the opportunity to get continuous mentoring from Astra.
