Resika & Jerome Polin Inspire Indonesian Youth

JAKARTA: Sumpah Pemuda (the Youth Pledge) declared on October 28, 1928 embodies the spirit of creating a just, prosperous and sovereign Indonesia, as envisioned by Indonesian youth in the pre-independence period.

Sharing the same spirit is Resika Caesaria, a young woman from Banyumas, Central Java and a recipient of the 2014 SATU Indonesia Awards. Cika, as she likes to be called, provides an extraordinary offer through her cimol (Indonesian street snack made of tapioca starch) business: a free franchise. After 15 years, Cika now has 400 partners from that arrangement.

"Yes, we call them partners because we all work together. I'm not the boss here, because they are their own boss. They manage on their own how diligent they want to work. They generate higher revenue when they do, and vice versa,” said Cika.

Cika ignited the same spirit that she lives on in the webinar "The Spirit of Indonesian Youth" together with content creator Jerome Polin today (11/10) through SATU Indonesia YouTube channel.

This webinar is a collaboration between Astra and GK|Hebat, an accelerator for micro and small entrepreneurs. Patricia Gouw, a host and a presenter, was the MC of this event.

In this webinar, Cika shared her experiences in selecting partners. Only those without a job and are in the underprivileged group can receive this free business opportunity.

"Because our intention from the beginning is to help those in need. They are the kind of people who are willing to work hard to improve their lives,” added Cika.

Be the Best
On the same occasion, Jerome Polin shared his story about getting a scholarship to study at one of the leading universities in Japan and how he worked hard during his high school year for it. Jerome was continuously studying that he was labeled a bookworm. He was so diligent that he would study anywhere, even on a public transport.

"I was really determined back then. I didn’t use social media. You could say I didn’t socialize much. I worked on math problems during recess at the school’s library, I went straight home from school, and I even studied when commuting on a public transport,” said Jerome, reminiscing his experience. Jerome now owns a YouTube channel called Nihongo Mantappu, boasting some 4.6 million subscribers. The contents of the channel, mostly picturing Jerome's daily life in Japan, are both entertaining and educational.

Cika and Jerome's perseverance in achieving their dreams is in line with Astra's mission to prosper with the nation.
