Kampung Berseri Astra & Desa Sejahtera Astra Festival, Innovating Villages Ready to Advance Indonesia

JAKARTA: The COVID-19 pandemic not only affects business sectors in Indonesia, but also on the number of workforce and the unemployment rate in Indonesia.

According to data published by Statistics Indonesia (BPS) in August 2020, 9.77 million people out of 138.22 million of the total labor force in Indonesia are unemployed, an increase of 37.61% compared to August 2019 of 7.10 million people.

"Through KBA and DSA programs, Astra is able to increase new workforce by more than 11,000 people, and boost the income of the people involved by more than 36%. This achievement is a result of great collaboration between the government, private sector, universities, and other stakeholders, and most importantly the figures behind each KBA and DSA," said Astra's Chief of Corporate Affairs Riza Deliansyah.

This increase in the number of new workforce is expected to help reducing the number of unemployment across Indonesia.

Through its sustainable social contribution programs, namely Kampung Berseri Astra (KBA) and Desa Sejahtera Astra (DSA), Astra consistently develops rural communities and encourages them to continuously innovate to improve their welfare. To date, Astra has developed a total of 116 KBAs and 755 DSAs in 34 provinces across Indonesia.

KBA is an area with a clean and green environment, and its residents are healthy, smart and productive. This reflects the four pillars of Astra's sustainable social contribution, namely health, education, entrepreneurship, and the environment, which are the basis for an independent village.

In 2018, Astra Group together with Astra Foundation complemented the KBA program with the DSA program. This program focuses more on village economic development by providing added value through training, mentoring, and assistance in regards to infrastructure, capital, and sourcing of offtakers for superior products produced by the respective village.
