BALI: Towards the end of the year, Astra remained just as committed to its mission of generating continuing social contribution, especially under the environment pillar. This year, for the second time, Astra supported the Bali Hope Swimrun held on December 11-12, 2019 in Nusa Lembongan, Bali. A total of 22 runners from five countries participated in the event, namely from the United States (US), Australia, the United Kingdom (UK), Singapore, and the host country Indonesia.
An aquathlon, Bali Hope Swimrun intended to raise funds for environmental preservation efforts in Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan – two small islands off the coast of Bali that welcome thousands of visitors a day. The funds would be used to clean the waters from plastic waste and, in collaboration with Bali Children Foundation, to deliver education in seven schools in Nusa Lembongan about nature and the English language.
This year’s Bali Hope Swimrun covered a distance of 20.9 kilometers of running and 3.3 kilometers of swimming.
The event’s first edition in 2018 was participated by 20 runners from six countries, namely Indonesia, Australia, the US, the UK, New Zealand, and Sweden. It raised a total of US$74,234 or more than Rp1 billion.
The event hoped to educate the younger generation on the urgency of environmental preservation and how they can help their community to manage and recycle wastes. Astra expected this event could set an example and inspire other people in different places to do the same for the environment.
For Astra, the spirit behind Bali Hope is aligned with its mission to prosper with the nation.
