Held in 10 Cities, Astra Green Lifestyle Holds Bali Green Run & Jakarta Green Run

JAKARTA: Today (14/4), PT Astra International Tbk along with its subsidiaries holds Astra Green Lifestyle (AGL) kick-off program. In its fifth year, AGL will be held in 10 major cities in Indonesia, namely Jakarta, Denpasar, Bandung, Palembang, Makassar, Balikpapan, Yogyakarta, Pekanbaru, Surabaya, and Medan.

AGL is a part of Astra Group’s Corporate Social Responsibility annual program to maintain and preserve the environment and promote environmentally friendly lifestyle to the general public.

AGL is held as Environmental Day Commemoration, which falls on June 5^th, and as a part of Astra Group’s green lifestyle campaign, with the slogan Know – Act – Teach. During the AGL campaign program, people are expected to be inspired to live environmentally friendly by acknowledging the environmental management activities that Group Astra has done over the years (Know), to experience first hand how to do their own environmental management (Act), and to be inspired to pass on the knowledge and experience to others (Teach).

The AGL program kicks off today with an Astra Green Lifestyle media gathering by presenting three celebrity runners, such as Olivia Jensen, Dhini Aminarti, Dimas Seto, and Putri Indonesia Lingkungan (Miss Environment Indonesia) 2014, Elfin Pertiwi Rappa.

Bali Green Run & Jakarta Green Run

There will be many activities held in AGL, including Bali Green Run (BGR) and Jakarta Green Run (JGR). Unlike the previous race in 2014, which was only held in Jakarta, this year the races will be held in Jakarta and Bali. BGR has two categories, 6-kilometer (6K) run and 13-kilometer (13K) run that will be held at Elephant Safari Park & Lodge Tegallalang, Ubud, Bali on May 31^st 2015.

BGR’s concept is to run through rice fields, forests, and countryside surroundings. BGR hopes the participants could exercise while enjoying the fresh air in the middle of green sceneries. BGR registration is open for both Indonesian and foreign nationals.

JGR will be held in Ancol Ocean Ecopark on June 7^th 2015 with two categories, 5 kilometer (5K) run and 10 kilometer (10K) run. What’s unique about these two races is, each participant represents a tree, which will be planted by Astra Group. It goes without saying, the more people participate in the race, more trees will be planted, thus making the earth a little greener.

100,000 Trees

In AGL 2014, there were 40,000 tree seedlings that were successfully collected. Said seedlings will be added to the total trees that will be planted by Astra in 2015 of 10,000 trees, which will be planted in 100 hectares land in Astra Sentul Eco Edu Tourism Forest (ASEETF).

BGR and JGR registrations are open until the coming May 23^rd, at www.satu-indonesia.com. The registration fees for BGR are as follow, Rp. 175,000 for the 6K race and Rp. 225,000 for the 13K race, whereas the registration fees for JGR are Rp. 225,000 for the 5K race and Rp. 275,000 for the 10K race. Every registrant will receive a Rp. 50,000 cash back for bringing 10 plastic bottles on race pack collection day (not applicable for multiples). Said plastic bottles will be recycled to plastic ores in Astra-assisted waste bank.

JGR and BGR winners will be separated into two categories, male and female, each competing for the top 3 fastest runners. In 2014, for the male category, Collins won the first place with a record of 14 minutes and 14 seconds, Bambang Giyono came in second place with 14 minutes 54 seconds, and Suhendar won third place with 14 minutes and 56 seconds. There were around 3,000 racers who participated in the 5K race in Parkir Timur Senayan, Jakarta.

Aside from BGR and JGR, AGL program will also present various entertainments that will provide insights to the public regarding environmentally friendly lifestyle. There will also be healthy food stalls, of which all of the foods are processed with an environmentally friendly approach. Nidji Band and Nugie will perform to entertain all the AGL participants. This event is suitable for all family members to enjoy, as it could be an excellent medium to introduce green lifestyle. AGL Through the Years

The fifth annual AGL program raised running and healthy lifestyle as values that needed to be implemented. Here are some of the substantial deeds Astra Group has done over the years through AGL programs:

Year 2014

AGL was held in Parkir Timur Senayan with three main programs, which are: Green Action, consisted of JGR activities, green lifestyle talk, juice bike (visitors pedals stationary bicycles to produce varieties of fruit juices) and Astra Safe Traffic Zone. Green Exhibition, which is a green action with Indonesian Communities such as, Indonesian Community of Gardening (Berkebun), Diet Kantong Plastik, Plastik Daur Ulang (Si Dalang), Indonesia Bebas Rokok, Kreasi Musik Sampah (Kresipah), Nebeng.com, Bumi Putih Jewelry, Indorunners, Perikertas, and Astra-assisted Elementary School, which holds the title of SD Adiwiyata Mandiri (Ideally Independent Elementary School) 2014, which was State Elementary School of North Jakarta Sungai Bambu 05 (SDN Sungai Bambu 05 Jakarta Utara). Green Competition consisted of recycling used scraps art competition, Astra healthy music competition, planting, green puzzle, bio pore, water cycle, and decorating plastic bottle competition. The campaign was held in seven cities in Indonesia, namely Jakarta, Palembang, Balikpapan, Makassar, Surabaya, Denpasar, and Mamuju.

Year 2013

Ten communities participated in AGL event, which was held in Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII). One of the communities was Jakarta Berkebun. Jakarta Berkebun encouraged the visitors to plant tree seedlings in a plastic bottle, and later be hanged in a vertical garden. This event was also a competition, which was judged by the functional and creative aspects. The campaign was held in four cities in Indonesia, which are Jakarta, Balikpapan, Surabaya, and Makassar.

Year 2012

AGL was held in Plaza Timur Monas in 2012. Various activities was held, one of them was Funbike. More than 5,000 participants joined Funbike. Green Alarm (gathering and sorting waste) around Monas, which successfully gathered more than 1 ton of waste and 250 vehicles emission test were parts of Astra Green Lifestyle that was only held in Jakarta.

Year 2011

Environmental Cautious Community Exhibition (Pameran Komunitas Peduli Lingkungan) emphasized the use of plastic waste. 2011 AGL program also held Funbike from Gelanggang Olah Raga Remaja Brojonegoro, Kuningan to Silang Selatan Monas. The campaign was only held in Jakarta.
