JAKARTA: In the ensuing three months since the Semangat Kurangi Plastik (Reduce Plastic Movement) campaign launch, a total of 47,013 kg of plastic waste had been successfully collected as of the end of May 2020. The wastes were collected by Astra with Astra Group companies, foundations under Astra Group as well as the public.
This movement is Astra’s concrete solution and is aligned with Astra’s continuing social contribution for the environment.
The wastes collected came from 4,930 Astra employees and community members. As much as 42,758 kg had been processed by 45 companies and three foundations under Astra Group.
“Disposable plastics have been a part of our daily lives for so long. During that time, we didn’t even realize that plastic wastes are harmful for our planet. To change that, Astra calls to all its subsidiaries and the Indonesian society to protect the planet through this Reduce Plastic Movement. We can’t do this alone, this mission needs to be done together with the people,” said Chief of Corporate Affairs Astra Riza Deliansyah.
Semangat Kurangi Plastik was launched in conjunction with Astra’s 63rd anniversary in February 2020. The movement began with Astra’s employees concerns towards the environmental impacts caused by plastic waste.
The movement aims to raise awareness among Astra employees and the public to be more aware of the dangers of plastic waste. It also intends to educate them on ways to effectively process plastic waste and invites Astra Group and Astra foundations to reduce plastic waste. More than that, the movement is also a call to create a waste-inspired economic cycle.
