Astra’s 65th Anniversary Celebration Continues in Kalimantan, Highlights Road Traffic Safety Theme

JAKARTA: Throughout its 65 years of working and moving with the people of Indonesia, Astra is well aware that the society cannot be separated from the development of automobile use. Therefore, it is necessary to provide education on safe driving.

To achieve Indonesia’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are in line with the four pillars of Astra’s social contribution, Astra initiated the Road Traffic Safety Indonesia (Indonesia Ayo Aman Berlalu Lintas/IAABL) program in 2014. The program campaigns for adherence to traffic rules and safe driving practices to reduce the number of traffic accidents. In addition to campaigns aimed at drivers, the IAABL program also encourages road users to cultivate a traffic safety culture.

Through the annual IAABL Festival, Astra hopes that everyone can participate and become the pioneer of safe driving. This year’s IAABL Festival, themed “Collaboration for Safety & Sustainability Driving”, was held at the University of Balikpapan, East Kalimantan. Taking place on Sunday (9/18), the festival presented seminars and commercial vehicle pioneer training attended by more than 250 students and 250 Astra Group customers.

M. Isradi Zainal (Rector of the University of Balikpapan), Rendi Susiswo Ismail (Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the University of Balikpapan Foundation), Elvin Junaidi (Head of Balikpapan Transportation Agency), Police Commissioner Donny Dwija Romansyah (Head Section of BPKB Sub-Directorate of Registration and Identification Directorate of Traffic of East Kalimantan Regional Police), Riza Deliansyah (Astra Chief of Corporate Affairs) and Arya Fitriadi (Head Coordinator of Astra Group Balikpapan Region) attended the event.

According to data from the Indonesian National Police Traffic Corps (Korlantas Polri), Indonesia recorded 116,411 traffic accidents in 2019, the highest in the last five years. The number then dropped, mainly contributed by the social activity restriction imposed in early 2020 due to the pandemic. However, the relaxation of the restriction has driven the number back up, therefore, we must continue to be aware of road traffic safety and implement it.

“We wish Astra a happy 65th birthday. Let’s create traffic security, order and safety on the road,” said Police Chief Commissioner Sony Irawan, Traffic Director of the East Kalimantan Regional Police, in a pre-recorded speech.

Balikpapan University Rector M. Isradi Zainal welcomed Astra’s IAABL program. This program is expected to raise awareness of safe driving among students. “Considering that transport safety is one of the courses offered here at the University of Balikpapan, we hope this program can increase synergy and cooperation between Astra and the University to achieve road traffic safety in Indonesia,” he said.

“As of August 2022, all business lines of the Astra Group have implemented the IAABL program, fostered a total of 9,795 Safe Driving Pioneers and educated 171,886 people,” said Astra Chief of Corporate Affairs Riza Deliansyah.

The 2022 IAABL Festival kicked off on September 2, 2022, with the inauguration of the 5th Safety Riding Lab in Indonesia with Astra Motor and the Astra Honda Motor Foundation at SMAN Bali Mandara Buleleng, Bali Province. Previously, Safety Riding Lab had been held in Binjai, Bekasi, Banten and Malang. The IAABL program also provides training for over 650 safe driving ambassadors in the Kalimantan region. There are also the National Safe Driving Month activities, with as many as sixty-five activities attended by more than 6,500 people throughout the year.

Through IAABL, Astra Group strives to increase the number of safety pioneers, with 500 new safety pioneers targeted for this year. Safety pioneers are our shared responsibility, therefore, collaboration with the whole community is needed to enable them to accelerate the increase of safe driving awareness.
