
DENPASAR: Indonesia is a maritime country with large areas for approximately 3.3 million km2 are covered by water. Apart from its function as clean water source for the society, this water is also used as the source to irrigate the agriculture area through irrigation.
In developing the irrigation quality that needs to be improved following the increasing demand of agricultural products, Ministry of Public Works and Housing of the Republic of Indonesia (PUPR) holds The 3rd World Irrigation Forum and 70th International Executive Council Meeting of International Commission of Irrigation and Drainage located in Denpasar, Bali on September 1st-7th, 2019, attended by national and international participants.
The event is attended by Minister of PUPR RI Basuki Hadimuljono, representatives of Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Indonesia, Ministry of National Development Planning/the Chief of National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) of the Republic of Indonesia, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Ministry of Tourism of the Republic of Indonesia, and ministers of foreign countries such as Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Egypt, Nepal, and China. Also attending the event is the Chief of Corporate Affairs Astra Pongki Pamungkas.
As a form of support for this activity, Astra participates in becoming the main sponsor for the event by providing Village Multifunction Mechanical Tool (AMMDes) with KMW brand. In this range of events, 3rd World Irrigation Forum starts on September 1st-4th, while 70th International Executive Council Meeting of International Commission of Irrigation and Drainage on September 5th-7th. The event consists of exhibition, international workshop, and training workshop for young professionals. International workshops are held on September 1st, one of which is attended by Ian Makin from England with a theme of “Modernizing Irrigation Services for Water, Food, and Nutrition Security”.
