Astra Hands Over Third-Phase Donations of 30 Ventilators for Hospitals Treating COVID-19 Patients

Astra Hands Over Third-Phase Donations of 30 Ventilators for Hospitals Treating COVID-19 Patients

JAKARTA: Through Nurani Astra, today (27/4) Astra hands over 30 ventilators worth Rp13 billion to three hospitals. This is Astra’s third phase donations to help combat COVID-19, especially for the patients who are currently hospitalized and undergoing treatment.

This third phase follows Astra’s previous first and second-phase donations, totaling to Rp93 billion.

With the third phase donations in place, Astra has generated a total of Rp106 billion in support of COVID-19 response efforts and the patients affected by this disease.

“Any kind of support from Astra indicates our commitment to help the government and society prevent the further spread of COVID-19, accelerating treatment for confirmed patients, and alleviating social burden. We certainly pray for this pandemic to be over soon,” said President Director of Astra Prijono Sugiarto.

A total 30 of ventilators are handed over by Astra to Army Hospital (RSPAD) Gatot Soebroto (15 units), Wisma Atlet Emergency Hospital (10 units), and Prof. Dr. Sulianto Saroso Hospital for Infectious Diseases (RSPI) (five units).

The hand over process is done in stages by the Chief of Corporate Human Capital Development of Astra Aloysius Budi Santoso accompanied by the Director PT United Tractors Tbk Edhie Sarwono. In RSPAD Gatot Soebroto, the ventilators were received by the Deputy Head of the Presidential Hospital RSPAD Gatot Soebroto, Army Brig. Gen. Dr. Albertus Budi Sulistya, Sp. THT-KL., MARS.

Meanwhile, in Wisma Atlet Emergency Hospital, the 10 ventilators will be received by the Hospital’s Emergency Coordinator for COVID-19 Mitigation, Head of the Army’s Center for Health Maj. Gen. Dr. Bambang Dwi HS, Sp.B, FinaCS. In RSPI Prof. Dr. Sulianti Saroso and hospital director Dr. Mohammad Syahrir, SpP, MPH will welcome the donations from Astra.

Previously, in its first phase of donation, Astra provided COVID-19 transmission prevention facilities and equipment to the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), Indonesian Ministry of Health, Persahabatan Central General Hospital, the Indonesian Association of Pulmonologist, Indonesian Hospital Association, as well as Rp40 billion donation through a foundation that pools and manages other charities from different corporations in Indonesia.

Additionally, Astra has donated 100 units of Daihatsu Gran Max Pick Up, five units of Toyota Dyna and five units of Isuzu Elf NMR 71 to the Indonesian Red Cross as well.

Astra also facilitated 21 Kampung Berseri Astra (villages) located in the greater Jakarta area with medical equipment. Together with several recipients of the SATU Indonesia Awards across Indonesia, Astra initiated a movement to help stop COVID-19 transmission in the recipients’ respective regions.

In the second phase of donations, Astra supported a total of Rp30 billion to Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital in Jakarta and the Hospital for Infectious Tropical Diseases, Airlangga University Hospital in Surabaya.

In line with the donations, Astra also calls upon society to unite and join the #SemangatSalingBantu movement, which starts by promoting the use of cloth masks outside of the house.

Using hashtags #SemangatSalingBantu and #KitaSATUIndonesia, Astra invites Instagram users to upload one picture of themselves wearing a cloth mask to their personal account. Astra matches each photo with a cloth mask produced by a community of Astra-assisted crafters and later donates the masks to those in need.

The movement, which lasted from April 14 to 22, 2020, generated 3,659 Instagram posts and 3,659 cloth masks to match and be given away for free.

Astra’s support to COVID-19 response efforts, alleviate social impacts, and the #SemangatSalingBantu movement it initiated are all aligned with Astra’s continuing social contribution pillar and mission of prospering with the nation.
