
TANGERANG: The sun is still not fully rising, as the air is still cold. Thousands of people in their running shoes are seen standing in a tidy manner forming a long line. As the clock strikes 05.00 am, the flag of Astra Half Marathon is hoisted.
Astra through Astra Group running community, Astra Runners, today (3/11) for the first time holds a half marathon running competition joined by 4,000 runners. Besides for promoting healthy lifestyle, Astra Half Marathon held at Astra Biz Center BSD also invites the runners to preserve the environment by reducing the use of disposable plastic.
The flag-off of Astra Half Marathon, coinciding with the 6th Astra Runners’ Anniversary, is performed by Astra Director Suparno Djasmin together with the mentors of Astra Runners which are the executive of Astra Group. In his opening speech, Suparno Djasmin said that Astra Runners is one of the sport communities fostered by Astra.
“Collaboration of Astra Group and the society through this Astra Half Marathon aims to make this competition a continuous and contributing movement for an advanced Indonesia. This is in line with Astra aims to prosper with the nation,” added Suparno Djasmin.
Astra Half Marathon promotes #InspiringMove as its theme meaning to move and make advancement. This is realized through the use of Astra Runners’ tagline which is We Run, We Care, We Share.
We Run; Astra Runners increases its annual running competition quality. Not only 5K and 10K categories, but it also holds 21K half marathon category and it is open for public for the first time.
We Care; Astra Runners encourages all participants of the running competition to reduce the use of disposable plastic and plastic waste on the sea.
We Share; all participants automatically donate IDR 50,000 on registration and this fund is used to help cleaning the beaches around Astra Green Village at Pramuka Island, Kepulauan Seribu.
All participants can also enjoy various entertainment and prizes. For every runner reaching the finish line below the cut-off time, a medal, ionic drink, mineral water, banana and healthy snacks will be given. For the winner of 21K competition, finisher tee and access to exclusive area with ice bed and physiotherapy will be given.
Total Prizes of IDR 100 million
The prizes with a total reaching IDR 100 million are prepared. It is excluding the door prizes for lucky runners such as one Honda Adv motorcycle, one Honda PCX motorcycle and one iPhone Xs Max, with various entertainment prizes including smartphones, smartwatch, and shopping vouchers.
Astra Half Marathon is started with a press conference on September 3rd, and then the race pack collection is held on October 24th and 25th at Menara Astra. Every participant gets BIB number, running t-shirt, and shower gel put into an environmentally friendly goodie bag with no use of plastic wrappers.
According to research by McKinsey, 80% of waste on the sea is a result of human activity. People around the world produce 3.5 million tons of solid waste per day. Indonesia produces 67 million tons of waste this year, 20% of which is plastic waste. This concern then inspires Astra Runners to encourage the runners to have a movement and do some real actions.
In order to improve well-being in running, Astra Half Marathon provides several supporting facilities such as an ambulance and paramedics in motorcycle, nine hydration points, two fruit stations, two healthy bar stations, two sponge stations, and cheering area. In addition, all runners receive I-sport insurance from Astra Life that worth up to IDR 50 million.
Other facilities obtained by participants of Astra Half Marathon is knowing their time records in real-time mode through technology from Mylaps at www.scorenow.co.id and the e-certificate can be downloaded with their name and time record so it is clearly written and can be compared to other runners.
This event is, certainly, a result of synergy between Astra Group and other partners such as Pocari Sweat, Soyjoy, Sunpride, Original Source and Salonpas. The passion in this synergy is in line with Astra aims to prosper with the nation.
