Astra Group Hands Over Ambulance Units to BNPB to Speed Up Mobilization of COVID-19 Patients

JAKARTA: Astra Group, through Nurani Astra, handed over health facilities assistance of five ambulance units to the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) today (8/8) to improve public health services during this pandemic.

Astra Director Gita Tiffani Boer handed over the assistance, which comprised four Daihatsu GranMax Ambulance units and one Toyota Kijang Innova Ambulance, to the Head of BNPB Ganip Warsito at the handover ceremony.

Also present at the ceremony were Rudy Chen, CEO of PT Asuransi Astra Buana (Asuransi Astra), Suranywaty Tjandrasa, Finance Administration and Logistics Support Director of PT Toyota-Astra Motor, and Astra Group executives.

“We appreciate Astra Group’s concern and contribution to increasing the number of health transportation facilities for COVID-19 patients who require immediate treatment,” said Ganip Warsito.

“Astra Group always supports the government in accelerating the response to the COVID-19 pandemic through the various forms of assistance needed by the community, such as ambulance units. We hope this assistance can speed up the mobilization of patients to the hospital, which is beneficial for the wider community and health workers,” said Gita Tiffani Boer, Director of Astra.

Companies that provided the ambulance units were PT Astra International Tbk with two units, Asuransi Astra with two units, and Toyota-Astra Motor with one unit.

The handover of the ambulance units is the latest of Astra Group’s assistance for handling COVID-19, which first started in March 2020, with the seventh phase delivered in July 2021 with a total value of Rp200 billion. Astra Group collaborated with various institutions to distribute the aid, such as BNPB, the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia, Indonesian Red Cross (PMI), Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital (RSCM), and a foundation, all aiming to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The aid was in the form of vehicles, ambulance units, various medical equipment for intensive care units and high care units, ventilators, multi-slice computed tomography scans, test kits, personal protective equipment, masks, and staple food packages to reduce the social impact to the community.

Strengthen Aid Distribution

Since March last year, Astra Group companies have also joined together to provide various support to the government, community, and health workers in strengthening aid distribution efforts.

For example, Asuransi Astra, a general insurance company under Astra Financial and a subsidiary of the Astra Group, stepped in to provide peace of mind amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. The Company provided ventilators and ambulances and distributed Asuransi Astra Syariah participants’ social funds amounted to Rp2 billion in the form of staple food in 2020. Asuransi Astra’s #MaskerTemanTuli social campaign program also succeeded in donating 6,400 Teman Tuli masks, 1,100 staple food packages in 24 cities, scholarships, and laptops for SLB B Sana Dharma, a school for hearing impaired and deaf children.

Toyota-Astra Motor has also distributed quick-response donations worth Rp1.55 billion in the form of 300 oxygen cylinders, portable beds, oximeters, level three personal protective equipment, vitamins, and supplements to six hospitals in four provinces. Prior to that, the Company also donated three units of Toyota Kijang Innova ambulance to the Papua Provincial Health Office through the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia and one unit of Toyota Kijang Innova ambulance to the Indonesian Red Cross headquarter.

Public Vaccination Centers

Yayasan Dharma Bhakti Astra and Dana Pensiun Astra have also set up public vaccination centers to help accelerate herd immunity. Astra Group is also gradually rolling out the Gotong Royong Vaccination program for its employees and their family members across Indonesia.

Simultaneously, through the #SemangatSalingBantu movement, Astra invites everyone to upload social media content with hashtag #SemangatSalingBantu and mention @satu_indonesia on Instagram or TikTok, or @SATU_Indonesia on Twitter, or Semangat Astra Terpadu on Facebook. Content uploaded should contain a motivational message for people during this pandemic or information on assistance provided for those confirmed positive for COVID-19.

Astra will convert each text, photo, or video uploaded on social media into one aid package containing meals or staple food for COVID-19 patients and communities affected by the pandemic.

Astra Group’s spirit in assisting the government, community, and health workers to overcome the COVID-19 pandemic is in line with the Sustainable Development Goals and Astra’s mission to Prosper with the Nation.
