Astra Group Allocates Initial Aid of IDR 4.5 Billion for Earthquake & Tsunami Victims in Palu & Donggala

JAKARTA: PT Astra International Tbk and Astra Group companies through Nurani Astra allocate initial aid worth IDR 4.5 billion for the earthquake and tsunami victims in Palu City and Donggala Regency, Central Sulawesi.

The first batch aid delivery worth IDR 500 million has arrived in Palu on Monday (1/10), then followed by the next batch of aid delivery. The aids are 260 tents, 60 generator sets, 1,000 blankets, 1,000 towels, 6.5 tons of rice, 1,900 litres of fuel, food material for public kitchen, toiletries as well as babies and women’s needs.

“We coordinate with various parties to ensure the aid from Astra and Astra Group companies are well-received directly by the earthquake and tsunami victims in Palu and Donggala. We hope that this aid would lighten the burden of the victims,” said Pongki Pamungkas, Chief of Corporate Communications, Social Responsibility & Security of PT Astra International Tbk, today (3/10).

Through Nurani Astra, Astra Group in Jakarta, Makassar, Mamuju, and Palu have coordinated for the aid distribution. Astra also cooperates with the Indonesian navy and army to send the aid and secure the distribution to Palu City and Donggala Regency.

An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.4 on the Richter Scale shaken Palu City and Donggala Regency on September 28, 2018 at 17.02 west Indonesia time. The centre of the earthquake happened in the depth of 10 km on the 27-km northeast of Donggala and had a tsunami potential. At 17.22, a tsunami happened with a height of 6 metres and hit Talise Beach in Palu City and a beach in Donggala Regency.

Corresponding to the official statement from the National Board for Disaster Management (BNPB) as of October 3, 2018, the number of dead victims has reached 1,374 people.

The disturbed communication has now been better, although it is still difficult to coordinate with the area. The electricity still goes off and is limited in Palu and Donggala. It is reported that continuous earthquake is still going on.

The officers of the Regional Board of Disaster Management (BPBD), navy and army, police department, National Search and Rescue Board (Basarnas), Regional Work Unit (SKPD), and volunteers are evacuating and helping the victims. Injured victims are being handle by health officers. Emergency handling continues.

Astra Group builds a post of Nurani Astra for the disaster management in a representative office of PT Astra Agro Lestari Tbk (AAL) at Garuda Street number 59 North Lolu, South Palu, Palu City. There are 13 personnels of Astra Search and Rescue team who have departed from Jakarta to join in the post.

The aid is expected to be beneficial for the people of Palu City and Donggala Regency. According to the principle, wherever Astra is, it has to be beneficial to its surroundings, in accordance to the first philosophy of Catur Dharma, to be the Beneficial Asset to the Nation.
