JAKARTA: Astra handed over the seventh phase of assistance in the form of aid packages worth Rp30 billion today (23/7) to be distributed to families affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Astra’s Director, Gita Tiffani Boer, symbolically handed over the assistance to the Head of the Presidential Secretariat, Heru Budi Hartono, at the virtual kick-off of rice assistance for the public activity restrictions (PPKM) donated by a group of companies under the Pengusaha Peduli NKRI. Also present in the event was Astra’s Chief of Corporate Affairs, Riza Deliansyah.
The seventh phase of assistance from Astra and the other companies will be used to procure 35,000 tonnes of rice, oxygen concentrators, activation of vaccination centers, and medicines for COVID-19 patients.
The distribution of aid provided by companies under the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Buddha Tzu Chi Indonesia Foundation will involve volunteers in different areas in Indonesia with support from the Indonesian military (TNI) and the national police (Polri).
The total amount of aid Astra has provided for handling COVID-19, including the seventh phase assistance, is Rp200 billion.
In the first six phases of assistance worth Rp170 billion, with the sixth given in early 2021, Astra—through Nurani Astra—distributed aid directly to the community and through institutions such as the National Disaster Management Agency, Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia, Indonesian Red Cross, and Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital (RSCM).
The aid was in the form of vehicles, intensive care units, isolated high care units, test kits, personal protective equipment, masks, basic food packages, and ventilators to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Astra’s contributions to supporting the government, health workers, and the community to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic and accelerate the achievement of herd immunity are in line with the Sustainable Development Goals and Astra’s mission to Prosper with the Nation.
