JAKARTA: Astra Cycling Team, Astra Group’s cycling community, held a media and community gathering today (26/2) to announce its plan to organize the third Astra Cycling Tour on April 5, 2020. This year’s cycling tour, slated to take place in Astra Biz Center BSD, South Tangerang, will highlight the theme Kayuh Semangat Kurangi Plastik (Pedal to Reduce Plastic).
Present at the gathering were Head of Corporate Communications Astra Boy Kelana Soebroto, Chief Operation Officer Auto2000 Ivan Sadik, Chief Operating Officer Asuransi Astra Hendry Yoga, and Chairperson of Astra Cycling Tour 2020 Committee Nur, Astra Cycling Team members, and journalists, bloggers, as well as Jakarta’s cycling communities.
The environmental theme that the 2020 cycling tour brought was aligned with the Semangat Kurangi Plastik (Reduce Plastic Movement) that was launched last February 20, 2020 on Astra’s 63rd anniversary. The movement stems from the concerns of Astra employees about the environmental impacts of disposable plastic.
Through the Reduce Plastic Movement, Astra aims to encourage both Astra employees and the public to be more aware of environmental sustainability and about the dangers of plastic wastes. This movement also intends to educate them on ways to effectively process plastic waste and invites Astra Group and Astra foundations to reduce plastic wastes. More than that, the movement is also a call to create a waste-derived economic cycle.
For that reason, other than promoting a healthy lifestyle, the Astra Cycling Team was also committed to reduce their use of single use plastics, for example by eliminating plastic packaging for the tour’s participants’ racepacks.
Thousands Participated
The first Astra Cycling Tour was held in April 2018 with 2,600 cyclists. In 2019, Astra Cycling Team returned with an independence-day edition of the tour, Gowes Merdeka. Collaborating with the Indonesian military and police force, the tour took place in August 2019 with 6,500 cyclists. This year, Astra Cycling Tour 2020 targeted to have 7,000 cyclists from Jakarta, Tangerang, and the surrounding areas. The 2020 tour offered two categories of 30k and 60k.
The spirits that Astra Cycling Team showed was in line with Astra’s mission of prosper with the nation.
