SOLOK, WEST SUMATRA: As the morning broke at the foot of the Bukit Barisan mountains, sunlight gently filtered through the trees and rooftops, welcoming over 100 participants to Kampung Berseri Astra Tabek Talang Babungo. Following its kickoff in East Java last August, the second leg of the Astra Photo Competition & Astra Journalism Award 2025 Roadshow arrived in Solok Regency on Sunday (August 3).

Tabek Talang Babungo, an Astra-supported village since 2016, is known as a cultural and educational tourism village, rich with stories—from preserved traditional rumah gadang houses and distinctive Minangkabau carvings to community-run agro-tourism and local culinary experiences.

With the theme “Uniting Efforts, Creating Impact”, the event goes beyond technical and photography training. It creates a space for sharing inspiration among journalists, communities, and village local champions, while also serving as Astra’s commitment to appreciating journalistic work through visual content.

“Through this roadshow, we aim to broaden the dialogue between content creators and local communities. Kampung Berseri Astra Tabek Talang Babungo holds many inspiring stories that we hope, through impactful and touching works, can serve as examples of villages that embody values like mutual cooperation, resilience, and innovation. This competition is also intended to sharpen skills and provide a platform to appreciate those who speak through lenses and words, bringing village stories to the national stage,” said Astra Chief of Corporate Affairs Boy Kelana Soebroto.

“Kampung Berseri Astra Tabek Talang Babungo is a village built on togetherness. We not only preserve cultural heritage but also continuously seek ways to sustain traditions. The presence of Astra and the roadshow participants is expected to make this village not just a photo backdrop, but a space for dialogue, learning, and collective growth,” said Kampung Berseri Astra Tabek Talang Babungo local champion Kasri Satra.

Participants from diverse backgrounds—including students, photography communities, journalists, and local residents—were invited to capture and write stories about the cultural landscape and daily life of the community, turning the village into a vibrant and open learning space.

The event also featured Prasetyo Utomo, Managing Editor of Antara Foto, who shared insights on photography, and Afrianita, Editor of Harian Haluan, who spoke on the importance of building authentic visual narratives.

This year marks the 17th edition of the Astra Photo Competition and the 11th edition of the Astra Journalism Award, both open to journalists and the general public. Registration is open from June 18 to November 18, 2025, via the official website astra.co.id.

Astra’s spirit in supporting the creative works of the nation’s youth through the Astra Photo Competition and Astra Journalism Award aligns with its mission to prosper with the nation and contributes to Indonesia’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
