YOGYAKARTA: PT Astra International Tbk ("Astra") continues to strengthen its collaboration with the community to develop local potential in Desa Sejahtera Astra Bugisan, Prambanan District, Klaten, Yogyakarta. Supported by a rich cultural heritage and local wisdom, the village has become a destination that attracts visitors and creates economic opportunities for residents.

Desa Sejahtera Astra Bugisan is renowned for Candi Plaosan, a historic site symbolizing the harmony between Hindu and Buddhist cultures. The village's longstanding values of tolerance and unity form the basis for its culture-based tourism. Since 2022, Astra and the local community have advanced village development through four pillars of social contribution: health, education, environment, and entrepreneurship. These efforts have reached over 3,000 residents and increased the income of Bugisan's Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) by up to 31%, supported by a growing number of tourist visits through collaborative programs.

"Astra believes every region has potential that can be developed to create lasting benefits for its communities. By working with local communities and stakeholders, Astra remains committed to supporting local potential, delivering real value for the community, and advancing sustainable development in line with Astra's aspiration for Prosper with the Nation," said Astra Chief Corporate Affairs, Boy Kelana Soebroto.

Efforts to strengthen Desa Sejahtera Astra Bugisan are comprehensive and tailored to community needs. In health, Astra supports regular integrated Posyandu (Integrated Health Post) services for toddlers, teenagers, and the elderly, with a focus on providing nutritious food to address stunting.

In education, the community has received training in Javanese script (aksara Jawa) and local cultural values for visitors and students. Additional programs include capacity building for tourism personnel, digital literacy, promotional content creation, and thematic learning focused on culture and the environment.

In the environmental sector, Desa Sejahtera Astra Bugisan implements integrated waste management by converting inorganic waste into creative products, such as wayang (traditional puppet) figures. The community has also planted Dluwang trees, a culturally significant species, for conservation and cultivated maggots for waste processing. These initiatives contributed to the village earning its Proklim Utama (Principal Climate Village) certification.

In entrepreneurship, Astra supports the development and marketing of environmental and cultural education tour packages, such as the rice planting and Candi Kembar packages. This is complemented by product marketing training via Instagram and strengthened partnerships with Online Travel Agents (OTA) to expand market reach.

The ongoing development of Desa Sejahtera Astra Bugisan, in partnership with the community, has resulted in several national achievements. The village was named among the Top 50 in the Indonesia Tourism Village Award (ADWI) 2022, won 2nd Place in the 2024 Tourism Awareness Campaign (KSW), and received Principal Climate Village Program (ProKlim) Certification in 2023 for its community-based environmental management.

Astra's commitment to developing Desa Sejahtera Astra Bugisan, which integrates cultural heritage preservation, environmental education, and community economic empowerment, reflects the company's aspiration for shared prosper with the nation and its support for Indonesia's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
