Five Inspirational Youths Win the 14th SATU Indonesia Awards 2023 by Astra

JAKARTA: Astra continues to honor the inspiring young generation through the 14th Semangat Astra Terpadu Untuk (SATU) Indonesia Awards 2023, held today (11/1). The awards were given to five individuals who have tirelessly contributed to the nation and society in the five fields of health, education, entrepreneurship, environment, and technology.

“So many young Indonesians, from the westernmost point of Sumatra to the easternmost point of Papua, despite their limitations, are demonstrating remarkable spirit and innovation in bringing about positive changes within their communities. Their innovative efforts and dedication to contributing to society are a testament to their sincere commitment to our nation and serve as an inspiration that we should all strive to emulate and appreciate,” said Astra President Director Djony Bunarto Tjondro.

Embracing the theme “For Today and the Future of Indonesia”, Astra aims to discover more of the nation’s youth who are contributing towards Indonesia’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This year, the SATU Indonesia Awards have expanded their assessment criteria to include an evaluation of how well participants’ programs align with sustainability principles, specifically focusing on environment, sustainability, and governance (ESG).

Winners of the 14th SATU Indonesia Awards 2023 are:

  1. Health Category, Theresia Dwiaudina Sari Putri “Health Activist from Eastern Indonesia” from East Nusa Tenggara

Theresia Dwiaudina took up the role of a midwife in the remote village of Uzuzozo in 2017, a place where few healthcare professionals were willing to work. However, her presence marked a turning point. Theresia embarked on a mission to educate parents, particularly mothers, about good parenting practices and child nutrition. This initiative has led to a consistent decline in the number of cases of infant stunting in Uzuzozo.

  2. Education Category, Diana Cristiana Dacosta Ati “Education Worker in Remote South Papua” from Papua

Since 2018, Diana Cristiana Dacosta Ati has been assigned to the only school in her remote village in the Mappi Regency of South Papua. Many children were not attending school as they were helping their parents gather food in the forest. Moreover, teaching and learning activities had long been suspended before Diana’s arrival due to the lack of teachers from outside the region coming to Mappi Regency. However, with Diana and two of her colleagues’ arrival, the children in the village have started to read and write. In fact, many students have now successfully continued their education to junior high school level.

  3. Entrepreneurship Category, Alan Efendhi “Developer of Aloe Vera-Based Healthy Beverages” from Special Region of Yogyakarta

Concerned about the increasing cases of kidney failure, diabetes, and obesity in his area, Alan Efendhi took the initiative to create a healthy beverage. This native of Gunungkidul, Special Region of Yogyakarta, founded Rasane Vera, a company that produces Aloe Liquid. This drink is made from aloe vera with natural sweeteners from stevia leaves. Alan involves the local community in the cultivation of aloe vera and the production of Aloe Liquid. Since it was first established in 2018, Rasane Vera has collaborated with over 125 partner farmers across Gunungkidul, Klaten, Bantul, and Sleman.

  4. Technology Category, Reza Permadi “Pioneer of Tourism Village Digitalization” from DKI Jakarta

Launched in 2019, the Atourin Visitor Management System (AVMS), an innovation by Reza Permadi, provides a platform for managers of tourist destinations or tourism villages to sell their packages, attractions, and services online. Currently, approximately 100 tourism villages across Indonesia are using AVMS through a partnership model. Atourin also helps them build a visitor database and keep track of finances.

  5. Group Category, Rengkuh Banyu Mahandaru “Environmental Champion Utilizes Frond Waste” from DKI Jakarta

Styrofoam and plastic packaging used in the food industry pose a significant environmental challenge. Rather than resorting to recycling like many others, Rengkuh Banyu Mahandaru tackled the root of the problem by substituting plastic and styrofoam with eco-friendly materials. This led to the establishment of Plepah in 2018, a startup company that manufactures food containers from betel palm fronds. What began as a small-scale production is now able to supply over 100,000 eco-friendly food containers per month.
