JAKARTA: In celebration of Youth Pledge Day on October 28 and to recognize the spirit of young Indonesians committed to advancing the nation, Astra today (November 5) presented awards to five young individuals at the 16th SATU Indonesia Awards 2025. These inspiring youths have made contributions in the fields of Health, Education, Environment, Entrepreneurship, and Technology, supporting the creation of a sustainable future for Indonesia.

The ceremony was attended by Astra Vice President Director Rudy, Astra Directors and Executives, members of the 16th SATU Indonesia Awards Jury, and previous award recipients from 2010 to 2024.

“For the past 16 years, through the SATU Indonesia Awards, Astra has continued to seek out young changemakers who bring real impact to their communities. Held annually to commemorate Youth Pledge Day every October, the SATU Indonesia Awards serves as a reminder that the spirit of unity, courage, and determination first ignited in 1928 remains relevant today—living on through the works of young Indonesians across the nation,” said Astra Vice President Director Rudy.

Recipients of the 16th SATU Indonesia Awards 2025:

Health Category – Future Doctors’ Companion: Alvin Henri from North Sumatra Province

Alvin Henri believes that improving public health begins with well-educated medical professionals. During his medical studies, the young man from Medan noticed that students and healthcare workers in regional areas struggled to access equal learning facilities, books, and training. Together with his colleague Dicky, he founded Medsense Your Study Buddy, a digital medical education platform that provides credible learning modules, critical reasoning quizzes, discussion forums, and regular evaluations for doctors and medical students.

What began as small in-person tutoring sessions at the Faculty of Medicine, University of North Sumatra, transformed into online classes during the pandemic. Today, Medsense has been used by more than 200,000 healthcare professionals across Indonesia, with 40% of its users coming from outside Java. This achievement demonstrates its vital role in bridging the gap in medical education access and creating an inclusive learning space — from Papua to East Nusa Tenggara.

Education Category – Guardian of Hope in the Workplace: Imelda Riris Damayanti from DKI Jakarta Province

Driven by concerns over the prevalence of sexual violence in workplaces and educational institutions, Imelda Riris Damayanti and Alvin Nicola founded the Never Okay Project (NOP) in 2017 as a movement focused on prevention.

Over the past eight years, NOP has engaged 3,582 training participants across five provinces and twelve cities, collaborating with 53 cross-sector institutions. The organization has also supported 18 institutions in implementing anti–sexual violence policies, establishing 11 reporting systems, and assisting 117 survivors through legal, psychological, and mental health support.

Beyond awareness campaigns, NOP drives systemic change through policy development, reporting mechanisms, and safe platforms for survivors to share their stories and access help. Its collaborative approach, which empowers partner institutions to independently sustain prevention efforts, has become NOP’s greatest strength—affirming that fair, safe, and violence-free workplaces and learning environments are not merely ideals, but new standards that can be achieved together.

Environment Category – Circular Economy Pioneer from Bukit Lawang: Hanzalah Rangkuti from North Sumatra Province

Hanzalah Rangkuti founded the Sumatera Trash Bank in 2020 as a community-based solution to waste management. Through the concept of waste savings, he transformed the way people view plastic—no longer as waste, but as a valuable asset.

Today, more than 400 households, schools, hotels, and restaurants are active participants. The collected plastic waste is processed into ecobricks, upcycled crafts, and high-value HDPE blocks.

This initiative has created a tangible impact: tourist areas are cleaner, littering in rivers has decreased, and residents earn additional income. These outcomes are further strengthened by weekly community clean-up activities every Friday, involving both locals and tourists.

With a vision of establishing a trash bank in every village, Hanzalah believes that protecting the environment means protecting life itself—because a neglected Earth ultimately harms humanity.

Entrepreneurship Category – Village Livestock Initiator: Tatag Adi Sasono from East Java Province

Driven by a passion for empowering rural communities, Tatag Adi Sasono founded Mitra Ternak Farm in 2020 using personal funds and a microcredit loan (KUR). Although the business was initially hit hard by the foot-and-mouth disease outbreak—almost leading him to give up—he rose again by shifting from cattle to sheep, which grow faster and have a broader market. This decision was also supported by the fact that Tuban is one of Indonesia’s sheep production centers.

Today, Mitra Ternak Farm operates an integrated livestock system from upstream to downstream, offering livestock investment programs, aqiqah and qurban services, and sheep breeding packages for beginners. The business is supported by digital administration, livestock identification, CCTV-monitored barns, and death guarantees.

Public trust continues to grow—evident from more than 300 active partners who have entrusted over 1,000 sheep, coming from various regions across Indonesia and even overseas, including Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Japan, and China, most of whom are Indonesian migrant workers. Since its establishment, Mitra Ternak Farm has managed over 500 sheep for aqiqah, qurban, and breeding packages, creating local job opportunities, engaging village youth, and building a sustainable agribusiness ecosystem.

For Tatag and his team, every sheep is more than just a business asset—it is a symbol of their commitment to improving the welfare of Indonesian farmers and livestock producers.

Technology Category – Captain of Digital Conservation: Oka Bayu Pratama from East Java Province

Motivated by the rampant, often unmonitored trade of shark fins, Oka Bayu Pratama, an aquaculture student at Airlangga University from Banyuwangi, developed SeeShark, an AI-based application capable of identifying shark species through a smartphone camera or portable microscope with up to 95% accuracy. Trained on 8,600 shark body part images, SeeShark can recognize species from partial samples. Since 2023, the app has been used by enumerators in Banyuwangi, Lamongan, and West Lombok to improve catch data and support the conservation of these vital ocean predators. Oka aims to integrate SeeShark with Indonesia’s official fisheries monitoring system to enhance measurable, effective, and sustainable shark protection.

Each awardee will receive an activity grant of Rp65 million and development support that can be collaborated with Astra’s sustainable social contribution programs, including Desa Sejahtera Astra and Kampung Berseri Astra.

Overall, the number of applicants for the SATU Indonesia Awards this year increased by 5.5% compared to the previous year, reaching a total of 17,708 applicants. As part of Astra’s commitment to discovering outstanding young individuals across the country, Astra has collaborated with cross-sector partners including Tempo, Antara, Kumparan, IDN Times, and Young On Top.
