PURWOREJO, CENTRAL JAVA: Astra is consistently committed to enhancing the welfare of village communities through its Desa Sejahtera Astra (DSA) program. Today, February 25, a ceremony marked the first shipment of Coffee Wood and Coconut Rope Dog Chews from DSA Purworejo, one of the Astra-supported villages in Central Java, to Europe and the United States. The products, valued at Rp35 billion, will be shipped in stages over the next year. The flag-off of the first truck, carrying a container of these products, officially marked the export launch.

The ceremony was officiated by the Minister of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia Budi Santoso, accompanied by Astra Chief of Corporate Affairs Riza Deliansyah. The event was attended by Purworejo Deputy Regent Dion Agasi Setiabudi, Director General of National Export Development at the Ministry of Trade Fajarini Puntodewi, Director of Primary Product Export Development at the Ministry of Trade Miftah Farid, and Director of Promotion and Marketing for Village and Disadvantaged Region Signature Products at the Ministry of Villages and Development of Disadvantaged Regions Yusra.

"We express our gratitude to Astra for promoting village products and enabling them to penetrate the American and European markets. This export of pet toys is a significant milestone for MSMEs in Purworejo. We hope that in the future, together with Astra's Desa Sejahtera Astra and export pioneers, we can assist MSMEs throughout Indonesia in boosting our export value," said Minister Budi Santoso.

"For 68 years, Astra has grown alongside the Indonesian people, remaining committed to making the best contributions to society to drive the nation's progress for today and the future of Indonesia. Astra has four pillars of sustainable social contributions, namely health, education, environment, and entrepreneurship, all of which help improve the quality of life for inclusive and prosperous communities," said Astra Chief of Corporate Affairs Riza Deliansyah.

This inaugural export is the result of collaboration between Astra, the Ministry of Trade, and the Ministry of Villages and Development of Disadvantaged Regions. Through this program, Astra aims to increase the competitiveness of local products, expand market access, and create a sustainable village economic ecosystem.

As part of strengthening the village industry, a plaque signing ceremony was also held to inaugurate the DSA Purworejo production center. This facility will serve as a hub for processing and packaging products made from coconut fiber and coffee wood waste to meet global export standards.

DSA Purworejo has been part of Astra-supported villages since 2021. Previously, the village was known as a production center for false eyelashes, exported to more than 23 countries in Europe and the United States, with an annual production capacity of 150,000 to 1,800,000 units. Over time, the village has continued to innovate, expanding its product offerings to include Coffee Wood and Coconut Rope Dog Chews, now produced in several villages such as Popongan, Boro Wetan, Winong Lor, Winong Kidul, Boro Kulon, Candingasinan, Condongsari, Sokowaten, Sawit, and Golok.

These products are a result of community innovation, utilizing local resources such as scrap wood from coffee plant rejuvenation processes and coconut fiber crafted into high-quality, eco-friendly pet toys. With Astra's support in enhancing production standards, packaging, and marketing strategies, these products have successfully entered export markets, with increasing demand from countries in Europe and the United States.

From 2021 to 2024, the DSA Purworejo program has positively impacted the local economy. The program has increased community income by up to 70%, created 80 new jobs, and empowered 1,100 people in the production and export chains. Products from this village have been exported to many countries, including Mexico, Colombia, the United States, Serbia, Nigeria, Brazil, Russia, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and India, with a total export value of Rp43.52 billion.

The success of Coffee Wood and Coconut Rope Dog Chews exports further solidifies the role of Astra's DSA program in bringing local products to the global market. To date, more than 401 DSA villages have successfully exported their products, with a total export value of Rp349 billion from 2020 to 2024.

Astra's support for strengthening village-based economic ecosystems aligns with Astra's mission to prosper with the nation while supporting the achievement of Indonesia's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
