MALANG, EAST JAVA: Astra consistently supports the enhancement of the welfare of rural communities through its Desa Sejahtera Astra (DSA) program. Today, December 19, the export of cowpea and fishery products to the Netherlands by DSA Insan Madani Sukses, one of Astra’s fostered villages in Malang, East Java, commenced. The ceremony for this inaugural export shipment, valued at Rp63.2 billion and set to be delivered gradually over the next year, was marked by the flag-off of trucks carrying 10 tons of cowpea and 1,500 boxes of fishery products, including tilapia and catfish.

The export was officially sent off by the Indonesian Minister of Trade Budi Santoso, alongside Astra Chief of Corporate Affairs Riza Deliansyah.

Distinguished attendees included Ma’ruf Mubarok, Member of the Indonesian House of Representatives Commission VII; Mardyana Listyowati, Director General of National Export Development; M. Sanusi, Regent of Malang; and Muhammad Asnawi Sabil, Director of Promotion and Marketing for Signature Products of Villages and Underdeveloped Regions from the Ministry of Villages and Development of Disadvantaged Regions of Indonesia.

“We commend Astra for its continued commitment to enhancing community welfare through the Desa Sejahtera Astra program. This event demonstrates that consistent innovation by Desa Sejahtera Astra enables its products to compete globally amid uncertain market conditions,” said Minister Budi Santoso.

“Astra is committed to contributing the best to society through its four pillars of social contribution programs: health, education, environment, and entrepreneurship. By adopting a targeted assistance approach and fostering synergy between central and local governments, Astra aspires for Desa Sejahtera Astra’s signature products to grow significantly and become a source of national pride for today and the future of Indonesia,” remarked Astra Chief of Corporate Affairs Riza Deliansyah.

The export sent-off, a collaboration between Astra, the Indonesian Ministry of Trade, and the Ministry of Villages and Development of Disadvantaged Regions of Indonesia, aims to develop and market signature village products to elevate their market values, thereby enhancing community welfare.

During the event, an inauguration plaque for a factory that will be used for cowpea and fishery production at DSA Insan Madani Sukses was also signed.

DSA Insan Madani Sukses serves as an incubator in Malang Regency, with the program extending to Jember and Blitar, focusing on cowpea and smoked/salted fishery commodities. This initiative collaborates with local pesantren (Islamic boarding schools), farmer groups, fish farmers, and Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDES).

In 2023, DSA Insan Madani Sukses gained the trust of buyers from the Netherlands for cowpea and smoked/salted fishery products at the Trade Expo Indonesia (TEI), securing a total contract value of US$20 million for the period 2023–2028.

The DSA Insan Madani Sukses development program has created 108 new jobs, increased local incomes by up to 85%, and contributed to the national valuation through community-produced goods and commodities at the MSME level.

Since 2018, a total of 401 DSA villages have successfully exported their products. The total export value generated by DSA villages from 2020 to 2024 amounted to Rp343 billion.

Astra’s dedication to supporting rural community-based economic development is in line with Astra’s mission to prosper with the nation while supporting Indonesia’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
