BLITAR, EAST JAVA: Astra consistently supports the improvement of rural community welfare through the Desa Sejahtera Astra (DSA) program. This initiative has recently seen the successful export of djembe drums, a flagship craft of DSA Blitar, East Java, to the People’s Republic of China (PRC), with a total export value of Rp17.6 billion. A total of 24 container units of djembe drums will be shipped in stages over the course of one year.
The official export launch of these djembe drums took place today (November 5), in which the Indonesian Minister of Villages and Development of Disadvantaged Regions Yandri Susanto and Astra Chief of Corporate Affairs Riza Deliansyah sent off the shipment of the first container of 3,500 fully assembled djembe drums. This event was attended by Dr. Ir. Harlina Sulistyorini, M.Si., Director-General of Village Economic Development and Investment, Disadvantaged Regions, and Transmigration; Dr. Ir. Jumati, M.M.T., Acting Regent of Blitar; and Dr. Iwan, S.Hut., M.M., Head of the East Java Provincial Industry and Trade Department.
“We hope the collaboration between the Ministry of Villages and Development of Disadvantaged Regions, Astra, and local governments will optimize efforts to boost village economies and investments and continue to contribute positively to rural development, helping villages become leading pillars of progress for Indonesia,” said Minister Yandri Susanto.
This event not only introduced the djembe drum as a flagship local handicraft product but also demonstrated the positive impact of the DSA program. Since its inception, the program has contributed to a 60% increase in the income of local communities across 11 target villages in Blitar.
“Astra’s support for DSA Blitar is a tangible manifestation of the company’s commitment to creating sustainable social value. We hope DSA villages will continue to thrive in the international market and contribute to Indonesia’s economic growth while fostering an inclusive and prosperous society,” said Astra Chief of Corporate Affairs Riza Deliansyah.
In the 2023 KBA-DSA Innovation organized by Astra for the DSA program, DSA Blitar won First Place for Best Local Champion, First Place in the Craft and Cultural Tourism Category, and Third Place in the Program Innovation Category.
To date, Astra has supported 200 Kampung Berseri Astra (KBA) and 1,196 DSA villages across 35 provinces in Indonesia. Of these, 401 villages have successfully exported their products to international markets, generating a total export value of Rp284 billion.
Astra’s commitment to contributing to rural welfare for today and the future of Indonesia is in line with Astra’s mission to prosper with the nation while supporting Indonesia’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
