BANYUMAS, CENTRAL JAVA: Astra continues to demonstrate its commitment to building Indonesia through tangible initiatives across the nation, one of which is the development of 250 units of Rumah Layak Huni Astra (Astra Livable Housing). The groundbreaking ceremony took place today (August 20) in Tunjung Village, Jatilawang Subdistrict, Banyumas, Central Java. These 250 free housing units will be constructed in two Desa Sejahtera Astra areas: 165 units in Banyumas, Central Java, and 85 units in Garut, West Java.

The ceremony was attended by Banyumas Regent Drs. H. Sadewo Tri Lastiono; Speaker of the Banyumas Regional House of Representatives Subagyo, S.Pd.; Director of Housing and Settlement Finance System Development, Ministry of Housing and Settlement of the Republic of Indonesia, R. Haryo Bekti Martoyoedo, S.T., M.Sc.; Astra Chief of Corporate Affairs Boy Kelana Soebroto; as well as Astra Group executives.

“Today is not just about building houses—it is about building hope, togetherness, and a brighter future. Astra hopes that each house built will not only serve as a shelter but also as a home filled with love, a place where dreams grow, and where families can weave their future. Astra also invites all stakeholders—central and local governments, village officials, communities, and beneficiaries—to actively support the development of this Livable Housing program in order to create positive impact for today and the future of Indonesia,” said Astra Chief of Corporate Affairs, Boy Kelana Soebroto, in his remarks.

Beneficiaries of the program are low-income families, particularly farmers and residents of Desa Sejahtera Astra Hutan Karbon Astra areas, who meet the criteria of being married, owning or managing land, not yet owning a house or living in an uninhabitable one, and having never received previous housing assistance.

This initiative is part of Astra’s ongoing contribution through the Desa Sejahtera Astra program, which has supported communities in Banyumas to explore local potential and improve livelihoods independently since 2016. With a holistic approach, Astra not only builds physical infrastructure but also promotes economic independence, strengthens social networks, and enhances quality of life in rural communities.

Astra’s sustainable social contribution programs in rural areas are carried out through Desa Sejahtera Astra and Kampung Berseri Astra villages, which now total 1,515 across Indonesia. Desa Sejahtera Astra focuses on entrepreneurship development based on village signature products through three main clusters: agriculture, fisheries, and tourism and culture. Meanwhile, Kampung Berseri Astra is a community-based program that develops village neighborhoods to be clean, healthy, smart, productive, and climate-resilient.

In 2016, Astra discovered Akhmad Sobirin, recipient of the 2016 SATU Indonesia Awards in Entrepreneurship, who later received support through the Desa Sejahtera Astra program in 2018 to develop local potential and expand the impact of village-based businesses. In Banyumas, Astra has also implemented programs such as Kampung Berseri Astra, MSME empowerment through the Astra Foundation – Dharma Bhakti Astra Foundation, and the success story of Semedo Village, which exports coconut sugar to Europe and America. In 2023 alone, Astra rehabilitated 100 uninhabitable homes, provided 32 clean water access points, built 32 public sanitation facilities, and planted a 263-hectare social carbon forest Hutan Karbon Sosial Astra across four villages.

The groundbreaking also engaged beneficiaries, village officials, and various stakeholders who have contributed to local development. Astra believes that sustainable development can only be realized through comprehensive and continuous collaboration.

Through the Livable Housing initiative, Astra continues to ignite the spirit of meaningful and sustainable contribution. Each step taken is part of the effort to foster hope, strengthen communities, and support the creation of a more prosperous future for the nation.

Astra’s commitment to inclusive and sustainable development through livable housing—both for today and the future of Indonesia—aligns with Astra’s mission to Prosper with the Nation and supports Indonesia’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
