PANDEGLANG, BANTEN: In collaboration with the Indonesian Ministry of Villages and Development of Disadvantaged Regions as well as the Ministry of Trade, Astra launched the inaugural export of 5,000 Sinyonya carps from Desa Sejahtera Astra Pandeglang to Vietnam on Sunday, May 31. This initiative underscores Astra’s commitment to fostering a self-sustaining, competitive, and export-ready community-based economic ecosystem.

The ceremonial launch was attended by the Director General for Export Development and Investment at the Ministry of Villages and Development of Disadvantaged Regions Tabrani, Director of Primary Product Export Development at the Ministry of Trade Miftah Farid, Pandeglang Vice Regent Iing Andri Supriadi, and representatives from Astra.

“Astra is dedicated to contributing to Indonesia’s progress, particularly through the Desa Sejahtera Astra program, which focuses on entrepreneurship empowerment based on village potential and signature products. This initiative is built upon strong collaboration with various stakeholders to deliver direct benefits and create a positive impact on rural communities across the country,” stated Astra Chief of Corporate Affairs Boy Kelana Soebroto.

Desa Sejahtera Astra Pandeglang focuses on developing its signature product, the Sinyonya carp, an endemic species from Banjar Subdistrict. This fish can grow up to 20 kilograms and has a lifespan of up to fifteen years. In addition to international markets, the village has successfully distributed Sinyonya carp across Java and Sumatra.

Beyond aquaculture, Desa Sejahtera Astra Pandeglang has expanded its signature product development efforts to include pandan duri woven crafts and Puhu coffee, a local coffee brand. The village has successfully produced a range of woven items, including bags, wallets, prayer mats, and sandals.

Additionally, Desa Sejahtera Astra Pandeglang has developed an integrated edu-tourism program that combines aquaculture, craftsmanship, camping grounds, and culinary experiences.

Since its inception in 2018, Astra has nurtured the Desa Sejahtera Astra initiative, focusing on three core clusters: agriculture and its processed products, marine and fisheries, and tourism, crafts, and culture.

By December 2024, Astra had supported 1,515 villages across 35 provinces in Indonesia, with 468 villages successfully exporting their products to international markets. Over the past four years, these exports have generated a cumulative valuation of Rp349 billion.

Astra’s dedication to driving economic growth in rural areas, both for today and the future of Indonesia, aligns with its mission to prosper with the nation while supporting Indonesia’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
