BELÉM, BRAZIL: Astra firmly believes that sustainability can be achieved through strong collaboration among various stakeholders. In line with this belief, Astra supports the Ministry of Environment/Environmental Management Agency of the Republic of Indonesia in presenting the Indonesia Pavilion at the 30th Conference of the Parties (COP30), held from November 10 to 21, 2025, in Belém, Brazil.

This year, the Indonesia Pavilion carries the theme “Accelerating Substantial Actions of Net Zero Achievement through Indonesia High Integrity Carbon.” The pavilion features more than 50 sessions, including ministerial dialogues, CEO talks, and Seller Meet Buyer forums connecting carbon credit sellers and buyers.

At the pavilion, Astra also took part as one of the speakers in the CEO Talks session on Wednesday (November 12), represented by Dr. Bandung Sahari, Director of Sustainability of PT Astra Agro Lestari Tbk (Astra Agro).

During the session, Astra Agro presented several sustainability initiatives, including plantation digital transformation through the use of machine learning and sensors to enhance operational efficiency; the implementation of peatland rewetting to reduce carbon emissions while preserving ecosystems; and the conversion of palm oil mill effluent (POME) into biogas as a renewable energy source.

“Astra continues to innovate and transition toward becoming a more sustainable company that delivers positive impacts for the planet, the climate, and the people of Indonesia. This commitment is embodied in the Astra 2030 Sustainability Aspirations, which outline Astra’s sustainability goals for 2030, including advancing technology-based innovation, promoting nature-based solutions, and expanding the use and optimization of renewable energy to ensure every initiative benefits both today and the future of Indonesia,” said Astra President Director Djony Bunarto Tjondro.

As of 2024, Astra has made notable progress toward achieving its 2030 Sustainability Aspirations, including reducing Astra Group’s Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 17.41% from its 2019 baseline, increasing the renewable energy mix by 44%, achieving 98.92% of solid waste recycled and recovered, and reaching 2.63 million beneficiaries through community development programs.

To reduce greenhouse gas emissions across the Astra Group, various decarbonization initiatives were implemented in 2024, resulting in 3,136.84 terajoules of energy savings and 41,126 terajoules of renewable energy use sourced from solar PV, biomass, and renewable energy certificates (RECs). Reductions in emissions were also achieved through methane capture facilities in the agribusiness sector and carbon credit purchases via the Indonesia Carbon Exchange in other business units.

Solid waste recycling and recovery efforts at the Astra Group adopt a circular economy approach, encompassing activities such as refurbishing, remanufacturing, and recycling.

To empower local communities while contributing to climate change mitigation, Astra also implements the Astra Sustainable Forest program. In collaboration with local farmers, the program rehabilitates forests by planting tree species such as suren and rasamala, along with productive crops such as coffee and avocado. By 2024, the program had managed 2,491 hectares of land and planted 1.28 million trees, supporting both community empowerment and emission reduction efforts.
