JAKARTA: In the transition journey toward becoming a sustainable business by 2030 and beyond, Astra strives to maintain strong financial performance, a solid and resilient business model, and a commitment to the future of sustainable finance. One key aspect of this commitment is the alignment of the company’s financial operations with environmental and social considerations.

To support this goal, Astra has allocated financial resources toward environmentally friendly projects and actively participates in tree-planting efforts, with a target of planting 3 million trees by 2030.

“Astra recognizes that every action taken to protect the environment is invaluable and beneficial. This is why we continuously encourage all employees to get involved in and support our environmental initiatives, whether through participation in tree-planting activities or by making small, everyday contributions to sustainability, all in support of creating a greener planet,” said Astra Chief of Corporate Affairs Riza Deliansyah.

In 2023 alone, Astra planted 774,425 trees and 15,772 rare fruit plants. This effort demonstrates Astra’s commitment to supporting sustainable development and reducing the impacts of climate change.

Astra also understands that Indonesia’s economic trajectory is moving toward low-carbon development, evidenced by the national policy shift towards reducing coal use and the country’s commitment to cutting greenhouse gas emissions in the medium and long term.

Astra Group continues to work towards its goal of reducing scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 30%, implementing a range of programs and conducting emission inventories.

Ongoing efforts to reduce the carbon footprint of Astra Group’s operations include fuel and energy efficiency measures, the adoption of new and renewable energy sources, and nature-based solutions. In 2023, Astra Group reduced scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 13.96%.

Astra’s dedication to sustainable finance is further reflected in initiatives such as the establishment of the Astra Sustainable Forest, covering 1,155 hectares across several regions, including West Java, North Sumatra, Central Java, and Yogyakarta. Through this initiative, Astra seeks to actively contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and has registered the project with Indonesia’s National Registry System (SRN) under the Ministry of Environment and Forestry.

Astra’s commitment to sustainable finance, which considers environmental and social responsibilities to ensure a better future for future generations, is in line with Astra’s mission to prosper with the nation while supporting Indonesia’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
