JAKARTA: Astra, through its Heavy Equipment, Mining, Construction & Energy business group and PT Energia Prima Nusantara (EPN), supported the kumparan Green Initiative Conference 2025 held on Wednesday (September 17). EPN participated in a panel discussion alongside other speakers to share Astra Group’s sustainability transition efforts and its support for Indonesia’s national energy transition agenda.

Through its Astra 2030 Sustainability Aspirations, Astra Group aims to increase the use of renewable energy by up to 50% and reduce carbon emissions by 30% within its operational scope by 2030.

“Astra is confident that energy transition is a crucial step for Indonesia’s sustainability. Through various Astra Group initiatives, including renewable energy development, we hope to strengthen our contribution to society and the environment—today and for future generations,” said Astra Chief of Corporate Affairs Boy Kelana Soebroto.

During the panel, Boy Gemino Kalauserang, Group Legal Advisor of Pamapersada Nusantara and Director of Energia Prima Nusantara, explained that EPN currently operates solar power plants (PLTS) with a total capacity of around 37 MWp, mini-hydro power plants (PLTM) with 34.4 MW, and a geothermal power plant (PLTP) with a capacity of 91.2 MW. Looking ahead, EPN is preparing to build a waste-to-energy project (PLTSa) in Legok Nangka, West Java, which will convert around 2,000 tons of waste per day from six cities/regencies into electricity with a capacity of approximately 40 MW. For this project, EPN is partnering with Sumitomo, Kyuden, and Kanadevia to form PT Jabar Environmental Solutions.

In addition to showcasing Astra Group’s support for the kumparan Green Initiative Conference 2025, Astra also served coffee from local farmers of Desa Sejahtera Astra to attendees.

Each cup of coffee was the result of collaboration between Astra and hundreds of forest farmer groups in Desa Sejahtera Astra villages, who cultivate coffee alongside other plants through the Astra Sustainable Forest program. This initiative helps restore forests by planting forest trees such as suren and rasamala, along with productive crops like coffee.

As of 2024, this collaboration has managed 2,491 hectares of land and planted 1.28 million trees, contributing to community empowerment and emission reduction for the planet.

Astra’s commitment to supporting energy transition and community empowerment in Indonesia aligns with its mission to Prosper with the Nation and its dedication to achieving Indonesia’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
