SAMOSIR, NORTH SUMATRA: Astra, in collaboration with Indonesia’s Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, launched the Clean Tourism Movement (Gerakan Wisata Bersih) in Samosir, North Sumatra on May 4. This initiative forms part of Astra’s broader support for the Desa Sejahtera Astra (DSA) program.

The event was attended by Deputy Minister of Tourism Ni Luh Enik Ermawati, North Sumatra Governor Muhammad Bobby Afif Nasution, Samosir Regent Vandiko T. Gultom, Deputy for Destination and Infrastructure Development Hariyanto Samosir, and Advisor to Astra Riza Deliansyah.

“We sincerely thank Astra for being a long-standing strategic partner of the Ministry, not only through the Clean Tourism Movement initiative but also through development programs in tourism villages. We’ve witnessed firsthand the positive transformation of tourism villages and the growing awareness among local communities—thanks in large part to strategic partners like Astra, which supports many tourism villages in Indonesia,” said Deputy Minister Ni Luh Enik Ermawati.

“Astra is committed to fostering clean and comfortable environments through collaboration with local communities and the government. The Clean Tourism Movement is part of Astra’s commitment to promote sustainable tourism governance. With the collaborative approach, Astra seeks to create a culture of clean tourism by empowering communities as agents of change,” said Astra Chief of Corporate Affairs Boy Kelana Soebroto.

Astra’s DSA program has been active in Samosir Regency since 2018, focusing on local potential development—particularly in tourism and agriculture. One of its villages, DSA Hariara Pohan, has achieved significant milestones, including winning 2nd place in the 2023 Indonesian Tourism Village Awards in the Homestay category and successfully exporting andaliman to Germany and France with a trade value of Rp340 million in 2024.

In support of circular economy-based environmental conservation, Astra is also developing a 125-hectare Productive Carbon Forest area in Silau Raja, Samosir, North Sumatra.

Through solid collaboration between government, businesses, and local communities, Astra hopes the Clean Tourism Movement will inspire the creation of clean, healthy, and sustainable signature tourism destinations. Astra’s support towards strengthening village-based economic ecosystems is in line with its mission to prosper with the nation while contributing to Indonesia’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
