JAKARTA: Astra supported the Lestari Summit 2025, organized by KG Media on October 2, by hosting an inspirational talk session titled “How Community Contributes in Building Rural Resiliency and What Support Needed.” On this occasion, Astra invited the 2016 SATU Indonesia Awards recipient in the Entrepreneurship category, Akhmad Sobirin—known as the “Coconut Sugar Advocate”—to share his experiences driving community welfare in Desa Sejahtera Astra Semedo, Banyumas, Central Java.
Community development is part of Astra’s sustainability commitment, as outlined in the Astra 2030 Sustainability Aspirations. By 2024, Astra had reached 2.63 million beneficiaries through flagship programs such as the SATU Indonesia Awards, Kampung Berseri Astra, and Desa Sejahtera Astra.
“Astra consistently empowers communities and strengthens social contributions in rural areas through initiatives designed to provide direct benefits and long-term positive impacts on village welfare—for today and the future of Indonesia,” said Astra Chief of Corporate Affairs Boy Kelana Soebroto.
Astra’s efforts to foster broad community empowerment include cross-sector collaborations between SATU Indonesia Awards recipients and more than 1,500 Desa Sejahtera Astra and Kampung Berseri Astra villages across 35 provinces in Indonesia.
In line with this vision, Akhmad Sobirin—also the local champion of Desa Sejahtera Astra Semedo—has empowered thousands of farmers and assisted 18 farmer groups through the Semedo Manise Cooperative.
His initiatives encompass spiced sugar operations, livestock preservation, and occupational safety training. Semedo Manise’s coconut sugar products have entered international markets, notably Germany, with organic and fair-trade certifications.
Sobirin’s contributions, which have become the engine of the village economy, generate revenues of billions of rupiah annually, including the export of 100 tons of coconut sugar products per month.
Astra’s dedication to strengthening community empowerment through social contributions in rural areas aligns with its mission to prosper with the nation and supports Indonesia’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
