GARUT, WEST JAVA: To enhance quality of life and promote economic empowerment based on local potential, Astra held a handover ceremony for Livable Homes (Rumah Layak Huni/RLH) and launched EcoBiz at Desa Sejahtera Astra Garut in Pakenjeng District, Garut Regency, West Java, on Thursday (28/5).

This event demonstrates Astra's commitment to sustainable social contributions by developing quality housing and strengthening the local entrepreneurship ecosystem.

The event was attended by the Director of Housing and Settlement Financing System Development at the Ministry of Public Housing and Settlements of the Republic of Indonesia R. Haryo Bekti Martoyoedo, Regent of Garut Abdusy Syakur Amin, Secretary of the Housing and Settlement Agency of West Java Province Isma Andini Prihati, Head of the Institute for Agromaritime Development and Innopreneurship Acceleration at IPB Handian Purwawangsa, Astra Chief of Corporate Affairs Boy Kelana Soebroto, and Chairman of the Board of the Yayasan Astra – Yayasan Dharma Bhakti Astra Rahmat Samulo. During the occasion, Astra performed a symbolic handover of house keys to the Livable Home beneficiaries, followed by a groundbreaking ceremony for additional homes to be built for communities in Desa Sejahtera Astra, Garut.

"The Astra Livable Home Program is part of Astra's commitment to improving community quality of life by providing housing that is safer, healthier, and more comfortable. Astra hopes that every home built can become a space for dreams, hope, and togetherness to grow, while delivering real, lasting benefits for the community, for today and for the future of Indonesia," said Astra Chief of Corporate Affairs Boy Kelana Soebroto.

In 2025, Astra will support the construction of Livable Homes for farmers in the Productive Carbon Forest area of Desa Sejahtera Astra. To date, 250 Livable Homes have been built, including 165 in Banyumas Regency and 85 in Garut Regency. The recent handover in Garut includes homes in Desa Telaga Wangi, Desa Marga Mulya, Desa Jayamekar, and Desa Cikandang.

EcoBiz at Desa Sejahtera Astra Garut

To strengthen the local economy, Astra launched EcoBiz at Desa Sejahtera Astra Garut, an integrated coffee-processing hub connecting farmers, cooperatives, and buyers. The program involves about 3,000 farmers across more than 1,500 hectares, producing hundreds of tons of green bean coffee. EcoBiz will also serve as a center for learning, educational tourism, and cross-sector collaboration.

Since 2020, Astra has partnered with IPB University to run a coffee-focused mentorship program at Desa Sejahtera Astra Garut. This initiative has established two cooperatives, Koperasi Produsen Kopi Mandalagiri and Koperasi Al-Bayyinah Sejahtera, which focus on coffee development, farmer empowerment, and agroforestry by planting approximately 1,400 hectares of productive forest.

The Desa Sejahtera Astra program in Garut now includes 10 mentored villages, integrated with the Carbon Forest and Livable Home initiatives. These efforts have reached over 4,000 community members, increased incomes by up to 328 percent, and created new jobs. Coffee products from Desa Sejahtera Astra Garut have also successfully entered the European export market.

Astra's efforts to advance villages through Livable Home construction and EcoBiz development at Desa Sejahtera Astra Garut align with its goal to prosper with the nation and support Indonesia's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
