BATU CITY, EAST JAVA: The early morning mist still lingered over Bumiaji’s hillside as more than 100 participants arrived at the scenic Desa Sejahtera Astra. Amid cool mountain breezes and the aroma of coffee from local farms, the spirit of learning and sharing warmed the atmosphere at the Photography Workshop and Inspirational Talk held on Saturday, July 5. The event was part of the first leg of the roadshow for the Astra Photo Competition and Astra Journalism Award 2025, themed “Uniting Efforts, Creating Impact”.

This initiative aimed to go beyond technical and photography training—it created a space for sharing inspiration among journalists, communities, and village champions. It also highlighted Astra’s commitment to appreciating journalistic work through visual content.

“Through the Astra Photo Competition and Astra Journalism Award roadshow, participants gain not only technical skills in photography and writing but also the motivation to become changemakers in their communities. We hope this year’s Astra Photo Competition and Astra Journalism Award will generate powerful works—both visual and written—that echo hope, cultivate empathy, and strengthen collective action for a better Indonesia,” said Astra Chief of Corporate Affairs Boy Kelana Soebroto.

“Desa Sejahtera Astra Bumiaji demonstrates a collaboration between village champions, locals, and Astra to create a space for growth full of potential. We hope hosting the Astra Photo Competition and Astra Journalism Award roadshow in Desa Sejahtera Astra Bumiaji will spark community engagement and bring local inspirational stories from village to the national stage,” said Anjani Sekar Arum, 2017 SATU Indonesia Awards recipient in Entrepreneurship and village champion from Desa Sejahtera Astra Bumiaji, who also served as a speaker during the event.

The event also featured Nurulloh, Head of Impact at Kompasiana, and Mas Agung Yudha Wilis Baskoro, winner of the 2025 World Press Photo Award, who shared their knowledge and experiences on journalistic photography, crafting visual narratives, and building authentic and impactful journalism projects. Participants included journalists, students, photography and journalism communities, as well as local residents.

This year marks the 17th edition of the Astra Photo Competition and the 11th year of the Astra Journalism Award. The competitions are open in two categories: Journalist and General Public. Submissions opened on June 18 and will close on November 18, 2025. For registration and further details, visit astra.co.id.
