BULELENG, BALI: The sound of waves and the daily activities of fishermen in Kampung Berseri Astra Les Buleleng set the backdrop for the Astra Photo Competition & Astra Journalism Award 2025 Roadshow on Saturday morning (September 20). Carrying the theme “Uniting Efforts, Creating Impact,” this village, known for its natural and marine tourism, became the third stop of the roadshow after Kampung Berseri Astra Tabek Talang Babungo in Solok and Desa Sejahtera Astra Bumiaji in Batu City.

While Desa Sejahtera Astra Bumiaji highlighted culture and community, and Kampung Berseri Astra Tabek Talang Babungo emphasized education and Minangkabau heritage, Kampung Berseri Astra Les offered a different story—one rooted in its rich natural attractions and unique cultural traditions.

Winner of the Best Tourism Village title at the 2024 Indonesian Tourism Village Awards (ADWI), Kampung Berseri Astra Les is celebrated as a destination that blends natural beauty with local wisdom. Among its main attractions is the Les Waterfall, one of the tallest in Bali, while the traditional salt farming practices not only enrich the visitor experience but also serve as a source of livelihood for the community. The village’s guiding philosophy, “the mountain is the source; the ocean, the destination,” reflects harmony between people and nature, making it a model of world-class sustainable tourism.

“The roadshow in Kampung Berseri Astra Les shows how local stories can inspire universal values. Les symbolizes how communities can protect the sea while preserving their culture. Astra hopes that many works born from this competition will foster empathy and create a positive impact for society—not only today, but also for Indonesia’s sustainable future,” said Astra Chief of Corporate Affairs Boy Kelana Soebroto.

“Mountains and seas are both the beginning and the end. Stories from small villages like Les can carry great meaning, inspiring many to protect the environment while strengthening community-based economies,” said Nyoman Nadiana, a local champion of Kampung Berseri Astra Les.

The roadshow also featured sharing sessions from practitioners: visual storyteller Beawiharta explored the art of storytelling through photography, while Antaranews Editorial Secretary Sella P. Gareta emphasized the importance of authentic narratives in journalism. Journalists, photography communities, students, and local residents joined in to learn and capture the life of Bali’s coastal communities.

This year marks the 17th edition of the Astra Photo Competition and the 11th edition of the Astra Journalism Award. Both are open to journalists and the general public, with registration available until November 18, 2025, at astra.co.id.

Astra’s commitment to empowering local creativity through the Astra Photo Competition and Astra Journalism Award aligns with its mission to Prosper with the Nation and supports Indonesia’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
