WEST BANDUNG, WEST JAVA: The cool air of the Padalarang hillside welcomed the delegation from Astra, journalists, and content creators to Kampung Berseri Astra Cidadap today (November 21) for the 2025 Astra Environmental Workshop. Situated in an area surrounded by the natural landscapes of the Stone Garden and Pawon Cave, Kampung Berseri Astra Cidadap has developed into an ecovillage, leveraging environmental preservation, education, and geotourism as its primary strengths.

This year’s workshop aims to engage participants in environmental conservation through hands-on activities with the Cidadap community. Now in its 16th year, the Astra Environmental Workshop continues to expand its reach through community-based synergy. It involves recipients of the SATU Indonesia Awards, Astra’s social programs like Kampung Berseri Astra and Desa Sejahtera Astra, the Astra Foundation – Astra Bina Ilmu Foundation, and the Astra Women Community to support positive contributions that benefit society broadly.

During the workshop, participants took part in several green actions, such as making organic fertilizer bokashi and planting vegetable seeds. These activities are integral to the environmental education efforts run by the Kampung Berseri Astra Cidadap community. Through these activities, participants can observe how the process of environmental preservation can be implemented by villagers in a sustainable and practical manner.

“Kampung Berseri Astra Cidadap demonstrates how long-term collaboration can yield tangible change. We are holding the 2025 Astra  Environmental Workshop to strengthen the community’s capacity for environmental stewardship while simultaneously broadening the positive impact to more communities. This initiative aligns with Astra’s mission to Prosper with the Nation,” said Astra Chief of Corporate Affairs Boy Kelana Soebroto.

Since its development by the Astra Group in 2017, Kampung Berseri Astra Cidadap has involved more than 60 environmental cadres who are active in waste management, food security education, and the use of liquid composters and eco-enzymes. The village has also received the Main Trophy of the Climate Village Program (Program Kampung Iklim/ProKlim) from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, successfully implementing over 5 environmental activities each year and engaging hundreds of residents in various educational programs and conservation actions.

Kampung Berseri Astra Cidadap features leading potential, divided into several zones for environmental development and geotourism. In the Integrated Educational Park area, the community runs a multipurpose room, a nature-based PAUD–kindergarten, food security education, liquid composters, eco-enzymes, and a productive waste bank that handles weighing, recording, and waste savings. In other areas, the Pranaraksa Center and the Nusantara Rare Fruit Garden serve as centers for environmental training and the conservation of local plants. The village also has a biodiversity and geodiversity education area through the Pranaraksa and Geotheater Hawu Pabeasan, which is used for outings, jogging, and as an open educational space for visitors.

As a village with geotourism potential, Kampung Berseri Astra Cidadap serves as the gateway for special interest tourism like rock climbing, hammocking, and rappelling at Hawu Cliff. Over 53 active participants from various rock-climbing communities in West Java regularly train in this area. The village’s location on the route to Stone Garden and Pawon Cave also makes Cidadap an essential starting point for geological education for students, communities, and tourists.

“The collaboration with Astra provides space for the community to enhance capacity while developing existing local potential. Through today’s activities, we hope more people will understand that efforts to protect the environment can go hand-in-hand with community empowerment,” said Kampung Berseri Astra Cidadap local champion Deden Syarif Hidayat.

Astra’s commitment to continued collaboration with communities, such as in Kampung Berseri Astra Cidadap, aligns with Astra’s mission to Prosper with the Nation and supports Indonesia’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
