BOGOR, WEST JAVA: Fresh mountain air at an altitude of 600 meters above sea level greeted the Astra delegation, journalists, and content creators visiting Desa Sejahtera Astra (DSA) Yayasan Mitra Organik Boja Farm in Tajur Halang, Cijeruk Subdistrict, Bogor Regency, today, December 5, for the Astra Environmental Workshop 2024. With the majestic backdrop of Mount Salak and Mount Gede Pangrango, along with the panorama of Bogor City, participants enthusiastically explored the immense potential of organic farming and agrotourism in the village, supported by Astra since 2022.
The Astra Environmental Workshop 2024 aims to inspire participants to support environmental preservation efforts in the village. In its 15th year, the workshop featured various activities, including seedling planting, compost making, and decorating woven crafts.
“Desa Sejahtera Astra Yayasan Mitra Organik Boja Farm is a manifestation of Astra’s commitment to supporting sustainable community development. This program is designed not only to improve community welfare but also to create positive impacts on the environment and local economy for today and the future of Indonesia,” said Astra Chief of Corporate Affairs Riza Deliansyah.
The village practices organic agriculture, processing its harvest into value-added products. The organic farming methods it adopts have earned certifications from international bodies such as USDA (United States), EU (Europe), and JAS (Japan).
Visitors to the area can also enjoy the natural beauty while contributing to sustainable tourism through the agrotourism destination’s glamping and camping grounds.
In 2024, DSA Yayasan Mitra Organik Boja Farm successfully exported organic fruit chips worth US$100,000 to Canada and secured an export contract worth US$700,000 for organic spices, coffee, chocolate, and organic fruit chips at the Trade Expo Indonesia 2024. The village also actively assists other DSA villages in regions such as West Manggarai, East Manggarai, and Maumere in East Nusa Tenggara with organic certification programs.
DSA Yayasan Mitra Organik Boja Farm has engaged 292 local residents in integrating organic farming, post-harvest processing, and tourism to create better economic opportunities. Women from the village, equipped with intensive training, now manage tourism facilities like spa services in the glamping area, offering unique experiences for visitors. Support from Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDes) also aids in promoting local products to broader markets.
Over the past year, the residents’ income has significantly increased. Previously averaging Rp500,000–1,500,000 per month, monthly earnings have surged to Rp2,000,000–6,000,000. Additionally, the DSA program has generated 73 new jobs. The success of this initiative has positively impacted 620 residents across five villages.
Astra’s DSA Program, launched in 2018, was designed to empower local communities through training, mentoring, and infrastructure provision. The program focuses on developing the villages’ leading potential through three product clusters: (1) Agriculture and processed agriculture, (2) Marine and fisheries, and (3) Tourism, crafts, and culture. As of 2024, Astra has developed 1,397 DSA villages across 35 provinces in Indonesia.
Astra’s dedication to developing DSA villages in Indonesia is in line with Astra’s mission to Prosper with the Nation while supporting Indonesia’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
