JAKARTA: Water is an invaluable natural resource in human life, providing essential benefits for our daily needs. Its importance is specifically highlighted in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation for All. This goal, with its detailed related targets, necessitates the cooperation of all stakeholders for its achievement.

This year, Indonesia is hosting the 10th World Water Forum 2024, an event organized by the World Water Council. The forum is taking place in Bali from May 18 to May 25, 2024.

Astra is supporting this largest forum in the water sector. This forum is expected to provide an opportunity for Indonesia and other countries to find solutions and foster cooperation in water resource management with developed nations. Astra’s support is manifested in the provision of 255 cars for the transportation of ministers and delegates of the participating countries at the World Water Forum 2024.

Of these 255 units, 130 are electrified vehicles (xEV) of the Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) type, the Toyota bZ4X. These vehicles are facilitated through PT Toyota Astra Motor (TAM) and maintained by the official Toyota workshop network throughout the duration of the forum.

“Indonesia’s opportunity to host the 10th World Water Forum demonstrates the world’s confidence in our nation. Astra hopes that our support will contribute to the smooth execution of this international forum, thereby achieving the desired goal, which is also this year’s World Water Forum theme: Water for Shared Prosperity,” said Astra Chief of Corporate Affairs Riza Deliansyah.

Astra 2030 Sustainability Aspirations

In 2022, Astra launched the Astra 2030 Sustainability Aspirations, which includes commitments, Flagship Initiatives, and measurable targets Astra Group aims to achieve by 2030.

Water and wastewater management is one of the aspirations contained in the Astra 2030 Sustainability Aspirations, with a commitment to reduce water intake intensity by 15% by 2030 from the 2019 baseline. In 2023, Astra Group successfully achieved a 23.66% reduction in water intensity from the 2019 baseline, exceeding the target.

Astra Group utilizes water from four sources: groundwater, surface water, seawater, and water purchased from third parties. The Group has identified and assessed the impact of water withdrawal and discharge for these four water sources. The entire water withdrawal process already meets the applicable standards and quality benchmarks.

Astra’s commitment to the successful hosting of the 10th World Water Forum, where Indonesia is the first host country in Southeast Asia, is in line with Astra’s mission to Prosper with the Nation while supporting Indonesia’s Sustainable Development Goals.
