JAKARTA: Throughout 2025, Astra’s social contribution programs across its four core pillars—health, education, environment, and entrepreneurship—have been focused on strengthening village communities. These programs are designed to provide immediate benefits while creating long-term positive impact for rural communities across Indonesia.

The four pillars are integrated into Astra’s flagship community-based initiatives, namely the Semangat Astra Terpadu Untuk (SATU) Indonesia Awards, as well as village development programs under Kampung Berseri Astra and Desa Sejahtera Astra.

“Through consistent and collaborative support, Astra strives to develop village-based flagship programs that not only address today’s needs, but also prepare village communities to face future challenges. When communities are equipped with capacity, innovation, and opportunities to grow through the strengthening of local potential and self-reliance, the resulting social impact becomes more sustainable and contributes significantly to national development, for today and the future of Indonesia,” said Astra President Director Djony Bunarto Tjondro.

As of the end of 2025, the SATU Indonesia Awards have recognized 79 national awardees and 713 provincial awardees, reflecting Astra’s support for young people driving change in their communities.

In line with the commitment to strengthen community empowerment ecosystems, the role of these young changemakers has been integrated into Astra-assisted village programs.

Launched in 2018, Desa Sejahtera Astra involves a wide range of stakeholders, including central and local governments, universities, communities, start-ups, and Village Business Groups (KUD). The program focuses on developing signature village products across three main clusters: agriculture and processed products, marine and fisheries, and tourism, crafts, and culture.

Through the integration of community capacity building and support for village changemakers, by the end of 2025, Desa Sejahtera Astra had reached more than 210,426 beneficiaries across various sectors, supported over 1,515 villages in multiple provinces, and contributed to local economic growth and export activities totaling Rp411 billion.

Under the health pillar, Astra implements programs focusing on mothers, children, adolescents, and surrounding communities. In Desa Sejahtera Astra Rammang-Rammang, South Sulawesi, health initiatives are integrated with tourism village development through clean and healthy living education, improved sanitation, and environmental hygiene management to create a safe and healthy environment for both residents and visitors.

Within the education pillar, Astra is committed to improving the quality of human capital. In Desa Sejahtera Astra Bumiaji, Batu City, a community learning space serves as a literacy and capacity-building center through the involvement of the 2017 SATU Indonesia Awards Entrepreneurship recipient, Anjani Sekar Arum. The initiative promotes a community-based empowerment approach to foster self-reliance, innovation, and competitiveness.

Education is further strengthened through the improvement of digital literacy and technology-based learning capacity, including initiatives led by the 2023 SATU Indonesia Awards Technology recipient, Reza Permadi. In Desa Sejahtera Astra Bugisang, Klaten Regency, Central Java, a digital-based education approach increased village income by approximately Rp50–60 million within one year through market expansion and the development of education-based tourism packages.

In the environmental pillar, ecosystem restoration and community-based sustainable practices remain a key focus. One example is the work of the 2017 SATU Indonesia Awards Environment recipient, Ritno Kurniawan, who is also a local champion in Desa Sejahtera Astra Padang Pariaman, West Sumatra. He led the transformation of local livelihoods from illegal logging to sustainable ecotourism. Through the development of Nyarai Ecotourism, around 170 residents—approximately 80% of whom are former illegal loggers—have transitioned into tour guides, ensuring forest conservation while improving community welfare.

Through the entrepreneurship pillar, Astra strengthens local economies by leveraging village potential and expanding market access. This includes initiatives led by the 2016 SATU Indonesia Awards Entrepreneurship recipient, Akhmad Sobirin, a local champion in Desa Sejahtera Astra Semedo, Banyumas, who enhanced the value of community-based palm sugar. The local farmers’ group expanded from 25 members to over 1,500 farmers, with product prices increasing from Rp2,000–5,000/kg to export-quality palm sugar priced at up to Rp15,000/kg.

Other villages have also recorded notable achievements. Desa Sejahtera Astra Purworejo, Central Java, exported coffee wood and coconut rope dog chew products to Europe and the United States worth Rp43.52 billion, alongside a 70% increase in community income. Meanwhile, Desa Sejahtera Astra Pandeglang, Banten, completed its first export of 5,000 sinyonya carp to Vietnam. In eastern Indonesia, Desa Sejahtera Astra Bajawa, East Nusa Tenggara, exported 15 tons of coffee to Thailand valued at more than Rp1.65 billion, involving over 200 farmers.

These achievements demonstrate that consistent, collaborative, and locally responsive community empowerment can drive tangible change. By integrating its four social contribution pillars, Astra continues to build a foundation for community development that is not only results-oriented, but also focused on long-term sustainability for present and future generations.

Astra will continue to strengthen community empowerment through the integration of initiatives under the Desa Sejahtera Astra platform, in line with Astra’s mission to prosper with the nation while supporting Indonesia’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
