PRAMUKA ISLAND: Astra, in collaboration with the Indonesian Ophthalmologists Association (PERDAMI), conducted the Refractive Eye Disorder Screening and Eyeglass Distribution program for approximately 100 students at state junior high school SMPN 133, located in Kampung Berseri Astra Pulau Pramuka, Thousand Islands, Jakarta, on Wednesday, May 28. This initiative reflects Astra’s ongoing commitment to addressing the widespread issue of refractive eye disorders among the younger generation.
According to data collected by PERDAMI during a school-age eye screening program in 2023, an average of 40.1% of primary school children were found to have refractive eye disorders, a condition in which the eye fails to properly focus light on the retina, resulting in blurred vision. Through this collaboration, Astra and PERDAMI aim to provide timely and effective intervention for such conditions among young individuals.
“Through the Astra Untuk Indonesia Sehat program, Astra implements various health initiatives focused on mothers, children, and adolescents. Astra is committed to enhancing public health, particularly in supporting the younger generation to learn and develop optimally. We believe that good health serves as the fundamental pillar for cultivating intelligent, healthy, and productive individuals, both for today and for Indonesia’s future,” said Astra Chief of Corporate Affairs Boy Kelana Soebroto.
The event was attended by the Chair of PERDAMI Jakarta dr. Julie Dewi Barliana, M.Biomed, Sp.M(K); Head of Disease Prevention and Control at the Thousand Islands Health Office drg. Wenny Ichwaniah, MARS; Representative of the Thousand Islands Education Office Mutiarso; Vice Principal of SMPN 133 Thousand Islands Dra. Mamah; and representatives from Astra and the Astra Foundation-Amaliah Astra Foundation.
Additionally, Astra invited Ayu Rahmawati Hidayat, recipient of the SATU Indonesia Awards (Provincial Level, Health Category, 2023), to participate in an educational seminar on Clean and Healthy Lifestyle (PHBS) for Adolescents. The event also featured a sharing session led by the Astra Foundation-Amaliah Astra Foundation, which provided guidance for youth development in Kampung Berseri Astra Pulau Pramuka.
Previously, Astra and PERDAMI had conducted the Refractive Eye Disorder Screening and Eyeglass Distribution program at various junior high schools within Kampung Berseri Astra (KBA) villages, including SMPN 118 in KBA Rawasari, SMPN 75 in KBA Kebon Jeruk, SMPN 275 in KBA Kebon Pala, and SMPN 152 in KBA Sunter Jaya.
Kampung Berseri Astra Pulau Pramuka
Since 2015, Astra has contributed to the development of Kampung Berseri Astra in Pramuka Island, Thousand Islands, through the establishment of the Tanjung Elang Berseri Child-Friendly Integrated Public Space (RPTRA). As a multi-functional residential island, Pramuka Island faces unique challenges that require effective management to ensure the well-being of the local community.
With Astra’s support, Pramuka Island residents have established a waste bank and implemented technologies such as pyrolysis machines to convert plastic waste into fuel. The community has also introduced pyrolysis and Lab Jelantah to process low-value waste into cleaning agents with a production capacity of 200 liters per month. Furthermore, recycling initiatives absorb approximately 100 kilograms of recyclable waste per month, while educational tourism is integrated with the island’s marine tourism.
Kampung Berseri Astra Pulau Pramuka has earned several prestigious accolades, including the Proklim Lestari Award (2024) from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Second Place in the Resilience Category of the 2024 Indonesian Tourism Village Award (ADWI) from the Ministry of Tourism, Best Community Group at the 2024 National Nature Conservation Day from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, and the Adipura Award (2023) from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry
Astra’s commitment to improving the quality of life for healthy generations, both for today and for the future of Indonesia, aligns with its mission to prosper with the nation while contributing to Indonesia’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
