Sustainable development must include more than just urban centers. The strength and independence of villages across Indonesia largely determine the country’s progress. This understanding inspired the creation of the Desa Sejahtera Astra and Kampung Berseri Astra programs.
Astra launched these two flagship initiatives to consistently transform villages into independent, productive, and sustainable communities. If you want to learn more about how these initiatives work, read the full explanation in the following article.

The Desa Sejahtera Astra (DSA) and Kampung Berseri Astra (KBA) programs are two social development initiatives that form part of Astra’s corporate social responsibility under its social contribution pillar.
Both programs reflect Astra’s commitment to supporting inclusive and sustainable development in Indonesia.
As programs initiated by Astra and continuously developed to this day, the following are several tangible impacts of the Desa Sejahtera Astra and Kampung Berseri Astra programs in 2024.
Astra supported the development of 84 new DSA villages and 35 new KBA communities, increasing the total to 1,515 DSA and KBA locations in 2024. Among these, 145 villages joined the Kampung Iklim (PROKLIM) program, initiated by the Ministry of Environment/Environmental Control Agency (KLH/BPLH).
The PROKLIM program aims to strengthen community resilience and capacity to adapt to and mitigate the impacts of climate change.
Through the Desa Sejahtera Astra program, Astra has successfully opened up cooperation opportunities with several international entrepreneurs to facilitate the export of its flagship local products. One example is that Desa Sejahtera Astra Blitar exported 3,500 Kendang Djembe craft products to China, with a cooperation value reaching IDR 47.6 billion.
Another achievement is that DSA Samosir exported 770 kilograms of Andaliman spice, valued at IDR 455 million, to Germany and France. These initiatives aim to improve the welfare of rural communities and increase the number of beneficiaries by expanding global market access for local products.
Through the Kampung Berseri Astra (KBA) initiative, Astra strengthens rural community resilience to climate change. One main focus is providing climate change mitigation training to local communities.
For example, Astra provides training programs on waste management and the utilization of green spaces. These efforts ensure that communities not only adapt to environmental challenges but also actively contribute to reducing environmental impacts through real actions in their own villages.
By 2024, these programs had reached more than 1,500 assisted villages and communities, creating many new job opportunities, strengthening food and social resilience in rural communities, and improving financial literacy among residents.
This initiative is not merely a typical CSR program, but a concrete manifestation of Astra’s role in supporting rural development. Astra proves that large corporations can play an important role in driving inclusive and sustainable development.
