Bagikan:

During his study at the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Brawijaya University, Hendra was forced to face a tragic reality: grouper fishermen in Situbondo, East Java had to lose their livelihood due to a ban against the direct sales of the catch of local fishermen to foreign vessels.

Hendra also became aware of the untapped potential of lobster cultivation. Lobster seeds have been hunted extensively to be exported to other countries, legally or illegally. This mass fishing resulted in a significant decrease in local fishermen’s lobster yield. When he did his community field work with one of his college friends in 2015, Hendra chose Situbondo as his research area because he was determined to solve both problems. Hendra and his team began collecting data on lobster potential, taking measurements of the area’s water condition and temperature to find the ideal place for lobsters cultivation.
