In celebration of World Environment Day, Agincourt Resources held the Mangrove Planting Action event titled "From the Heart for the Earth" on June 3, 2024.
Partnering with the Independent Forest Farmers Group Lestari, Agincourt Resources planted 60.000 mangrove seedlings and released 50.000 clams and crabs over 19 hectares of land in Kalangan Village and Sitio-tio Hilir Village, Pandan Subdistrict, Central Tapanuli, North Sumatra. Previously, in 2023, the company planted 30.000 mangrove seedlings and released 10.000 clam seeds on 10 hectares of land.
President Director of Agincourt Resources Muliady Sutio stated that the Mangrove Planting Action is part of the company's long-term strategy to maintain ecological balance. "This activity is also a tangible contribution of the company to the preservation of the environment around the operational area," he added.
The Mangrove Planting Action supports Astra 2030 Sustainability Aspirations, targeting a 30% reduction in Astra Group's Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions. This aligns with the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC), which includes the country's commitment to set emission reduction targets in Indonesia.
In addition to its ecological benefits, the Mangrove Planting Action is expected to have a positive impact on the economic sustainability of the surrounding communities. Acting Regent of Central Tapanuli, Sugeng Riyanta, hopes that this mangrove ecosystem can eventually be developed into a fishing and tourism area.
