JAKARTA: To achieve the Golden Indonesia 2045 vision of being a truly sovereign, advanced, just and prosperous nation, many things need to be prepared, such as exceptional and competitive human resources. Building a high-quality generation requires a quality education system, which is the basis for improving people’s lives and sustainable development.
Synergy and collaboration to realize quality education are also needed. The responsibility to provide good and effective education for Indonesia’s young generation not only lies on teachers.
Ki Hajar Dewantara, a prominent education figure in Indonesia once said, “Make every place a school, make everyone a teacher.” That statement befits the recipient of the 12th Semangat Astra Terpadu Untuk (SATU) Indonesia Awards 2021 in the Education category, Achmad Irfandi.
Achmad is not a teacher by profession, but he and his friends managed to teach adolescents in Pagerngumbuk Village, Wonoayu Subdistrict, Sidoarjo District to overcome gadget addiction. Under a program he initiated called Kampung Lali Gadget, Achmad introduces village youth to traditional games to distract them from gadget use.
“We created Kampung Lali Gadget for children to reduce their screen time. We offer them alternatives to online games by introducing traditional games that also teach positive values and character to the kids,” said Achmad Irfandi.
Achmad Irfandi shared his inspiring story of establishing Kampung Lali Gadget in the Inspiration with 13th SATU Indonesia Awards 2022 “Education for the Future of the Nation” webinar today (5/13). Also present in the webinar were Prof. Fasli Jalal (Rector of YARSI University & Postgraduate Professor at Jakarta State University and one of the judges for SATU Indonesia Awards), Zeezee Shahab (Artist) and host Sheryl Sheinafia.
In the webinar, Prof. Fasli Jalal and Zeezee Shahab expressed their hopes about the role of Indonesia’s young generation in the field of education. “An education that can lead us to become a developed nation. It is all in your hands, young people, to change it,” said Prof. Fasli Jalal.
“We have to realize that a country’s progress depends on education. Reflecting on what Achmad Irfandi has done, it would be great if we can also contribute positively and not only focus on advancing our own education,” said Zeezee, who graduated from a master’s degree program with a cum laude.
About Kampung Lali Gadget
Kampung Lali Gadget (KLG) is a program initiated by Achmad Irfandi, a native of Pagerngumbuk Village, Wonoayu Subdistrict, Sidoarjo District, on April 1, 2018, to prevent gadget addiction in children in his community. The program focuses on cultural conservation to promote traditional games, which appear to be quite effective in diverting children’s attention from their gadgets. Kampung Lali Gadget recruits young people in Pagerngumbuk Village and Sidoarjo and trains them to take the role of planners, educational facilitators and mentors. The training itself is conducted both in and outside the village.
Activities cover cultural education, local wisdom, sports, animal education and traditional games. In addition to reducing excessive gadget use, this program also helps educate children about local culture and wisdom. Achmad Irfandi hopes this program can develop into a tourism village program for parents looking for educational tourism destinations for their children to cure their gadget addiction. KLG team also hopes gadget addiction becomes a national issue and that public awareness about this problem will encourage everyone to reduce its impact.
His inspiring story led him to receive the 12th SATU Indonesia Awards 2021 in the Education category.
