
BIAK, PAPUA: Continuously, PT Astra International Tbk today (23/12) once again hands over 1,500 pair of shoes for children in 20 schools in Biak Numfor District, Papua, from a total of 7,081 pair of shoes and bags given to students in marginal areas across Indonesia.
Ministry of Women Empowerment and Child Protection Yohana Susana Yembise represented by Deputy of Minister of Women Empowerment and Child Protection at the field of child growth Lenny N. Rosalin today (23/12) distributed 1,500 pair of shoes accompanied by Chairman of PKK and Bunda Paud of Biak Numfor Susan Ondy, Chairman of the National Commission for Child Protection Seto Mulyadi (Kak Seto), Head of Environment & Social Responsibility of Astra International Riza Deliansyah and representative of Astra Group Coordinator in Jayapura, Papua.
“We represent Minister Yohana express our gratitude to Astra International for its participation in education sector in Biak District,” said Lenny in the opening speech during an event of Indonesia Layak Anak 2030 (2030 Child-Friendly Indonesia), Biak District Towards Child-Friendly District, today (23/12).
Since 2015, Astra has held generAKSICERDASIndonesia program that encourages people to do social movement through social media about education, and Astra converts each posting to shoes and bags for children in the outer and front border of Indonesia.
For two years, generAKSICERDASIndonesia’s donation has collected 15,039 postings in social media in which converted into shoes and bags.
Since 2015, the total social media posting that has been converted into shoes and bags reached 15,039 shoes and bags. In 2016, through social movement named “Guruku Inspirasiku”, Astra has collected 7,081 inspirational stories about teachers. Astra has converted those stories into 6,000 pair of shoes for students in other marginal areas.
“We choose Biak District to match the program of President of Indonesia Joko Widodo to build a qualified education in the front and outer areas of Indonesia. We hope the program will lead to a sustainable synergy with local government,” said Riza.
Child Priority
Besides prioritizing marginal areas located in the outer border of Indonesia, children are also the main priority. As a generation that will run the nation in the future, children have to be prepared to be educated individuals.
Knowing the importance of sharpening the next generation, Astra runs one of its social responsibility programs through education pillar. Overall, Astra has four social responsibility pillars, namely Education, Entrepreneurship, Environment, and Health, held by all Astra Group and its 9 foundations.
In education pillar, through Astra for Smart Indonesia, Astra Group has donated 229,197 scholarship packages, competency development for 33,220 teachers, and foster 15,027 schools as well as 20 Astra Smart Houses across Indonesia.
One of Astra education program in rural and marginal areas done by Yayasan Pendidikan Astra - Michael D. Ruslim and Yayasan Astra Agro Lestari which have built and fostered schools from elementary to high school/vocational schools to create competent graduates that will develop their areas.
Besides that, education program is also run by Yayasan Toyota & Astra, Yayasan Astra Bina Ilmu, Yayasan Astra Honda Motor, Yayasan Karya Bhakti United Tractors, Yayasan Amaliah Astra, and Yayasan Insan Mulia Pama.
Inspiration of 60 Years Astra
